Tucked away in a little corner at a seemingly random block in Outram, the Flour Department is tiny but charming. Brownie points for being pink but extra praise goes to the staff on duty today for their politeness and eagerness to explain the bakes and specialty pistachio coffee. The passion made me extra eager to dine at the place and fortunately, it spreads to the taste. The Bagel Sandwich and Dubai chocolate bun (forgive me, I don't know the proper nomenclature for this) had us licking our fingers and if we weren't so full, we'd probably order another set of each. The salt bread while good was different to the types that we're used to (particularly the ones we had in Korea in abundance). While my co-diner wasn't a big fan, I wasn't too fussed and I still enjoyed it. Lastly, the pistachio latte was delicious but definitely not for those who aren't big fans of strong pistachio flavor. For me though, it was a great drink and will be a must-order on my next visit. Splendid little cafe/bakery that's worthy of your attention. Updated Jan 2025 Julie is undoubtedly an incredibly talented baker! I'm amazed by the sheer variety of baked goods she's able to come up with, and how delicious the new items will be. I've been about 5 times now but their operational process is... terrible. Each experience has honestly been so varied and often frustrating that I find I can't confidently recommend them to my friends. Perhaps it would be safest to just order with delivery. Thank you Julie! I hope you find the below feedback helpful. Could be improved Consistency the pistachio roll had a lot less pistachio butter (it's been replaced by cream . Understandably, pistachios are expensive though so I would understand if the prices went up to maintain the standard; one of the mochi bagels also had less mochi in it. Perhaps the fillings should be weighed or something similar for more consistency. Ops the line moves slowly so be prepared to wait! Even with 3 4 people in front it could take 20 30 minutes. After ordering, you'll probably wait another 15 20 min minimum for the food to come out. Sold out/reserved items are not indicated e.g. with signs, so you may end up lining up for 30 min and the item you want may not be available Had a disappointing experience where we lined up for 30 min, were told lunch sets were not available this week (perhaps put a paper sign up? and when I suggested a paper sign to the girl at the counter she said they posted it on their Instagram story... Seems we're expected to constantly be checking our Instagram before going. Food: 5 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3
Have been a customer since they were located at Hong Lim and I’ve witness many changes over the period. My experiences have been a hit most of the time, especially ever since their shift. Though their bakes are vastly different from the past, I am happy that the taste have improved overtime. Featured are the recent 2 bakes I’ve had the black sesame roll black sesame warabi mochi petite which packed a punch in its nutty flavours, perfect for a black ssm fan like me. I’ve seen many reviews about the crowd here and yes I do admit there are queues at time. But I have to say the waiting time have improved since their days at Hong Lim, when I’ve experienced certain visits that I didn’t get my bake even though I reserved paid for it. Nonetheless, Julie is a responsible honest owner who makes things up for her customers. Not only was she apologetic, she refunded me when I can’t make it to collect another day. There were even times when she offered a free bake on my next visit. She doesn’t compromise on the standard of her bakes too. I bought a Bolo bun from her previously and the core was (to her surprise dense even though it was still soft. I thought it tasted great but was told that it should have been more airy inside. Following that, she gave me a discount (secretly on my next visit. I have to admit there were times I felt her bakes didn’t quite hit the spot for me, but her passion determination to improve on them more than makes it up. People don’t see these behind the scenes, but I do appreciate the effort she has put in her biz so far. Not certain about the others who might have bad experiences but I’m here to stay as a returning customer for sure. Looking forward to see more :
