What Carolyn Feng Friberg dislikes about Benu:
As for the dishes themselves, they lacked the wow factor or sense of wonder typically expected at fine dining establishments. They were essentially elevated versions of typical Asian cuisine, featuring familiar flavors (though with higher-quality ingredients). Many of these dishes seemed to have been on the menu for quite some time. Furthermore, there didn’t appear to be a sommelier present on a busy Saturday night;... View all feedback.
Surprisingly very underwhelming experience. Maybe because I prefer the sophistication in simplicity and history of the culture. I found most of the dishes...

The overall dining experience at Benu was truly memorable. The combination of exquisite food, elegant ambiance, and top-notch service created a perfect harmony that left a lasting impression. Whether it was a special occasion or a casual evening out, Benu exceeded my expectations and provided a culinary experience that will be cherished.
We had high expectations for a 3 Michelin star restaurant, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to them. For a $1,000 dinner set, we expected a memorable culinary experience, but most of the dishes were overly salted, with an overwhelming fishy taste in many of them. The beef was prepared without any particularly special technique, and even the broth suffered from excessive saltiness. The interior was surprisingly plain, lacking the warmth or elegance you’d hope for in a fine dining setting. It felt almost too minimalist, missing that special touch that makes a meal feel like an experience rather than just dinner. The only truly exceptional aspects were the service and the waitstaff, who were attentive and professional throughout the evening. We also enjoyed the tea selection it was unique and thoughtfully curated, with some incredible flavors that stood out far more than the actual dishes. Overall, while the service was top tier, the food and ambiance did not justify the price. We expected much more from a restaurant of this reputation.
