Still good as ever... It was very warm and humid evening as the temperature continued to creep ever so high trailing only the humidity. The island was smack dab in the path of typhoon Dianmu and we were ready for dinner. It's near Kinser where I was assigned Camp Force Protection Officer and acting camp commander during this typhoon. So before we were on alert, the family and I had dinner. Garlic House was packed. We were extremely lucky to find parking and even kore lucky to find seating for five. But after we sat, my boy and two girls slurped up the garlic pasta and chowed down on the garlic and miso eggplant, not to mention the pizza. The dishes were relatively small so we kept ordering... until we had a full table for dinner. After an hour we were stuffed and smelling like garlic, but I didn't mind at all. The food was good and made for a great family dinner. Highly recommend as it is still great food...
Wow, talk about disappointment! People raved about this place and the long lines and impossible parking made it seem like a place one had to try. Being a garlic lover, I assumed all dishes had some garlic in it but the most garlic dish was the ones with cloves itself! Finally finding an early evening when parking was free, seating was easy. The decor inside left much more to be desired. Dark wooden paneling and low light reminiscent of the late 70s made it seem like the decor hadn't been changed since. The menu had several tapas style dishes, small plates with a variety of options. The mushroom and bacon dish was tasty but nothing more then a few items stir fried together with a presentation that looked sloppy. The fried chicken was quite tasty with a tiny slice of lemon and not enough tarter sauce. The squid and asparagus tasted like frozen seafood. The garlic cloves were the most delicious with two roasted cloves on a skillet filled with seasoned canned corn. Dishes were reasonably priced but small portions which is good for trying everything but can add up quickly. Maybe the pizza or salads were out of this world but I somehow doubt it. Overall mediocre food, service, ambience. Plenty of other restaurants in Okinawa to check out.
