I decided to try the vegan meatballs, and I have to say, they were phenomenal! The meatballs were large and possibly the best I’ve ever had! The pasta was unique, and you could really taste that it was homemade and fresh. The tomato sauce was tasty but quite simple. My mother tried the tomato pasta dish, which she enjoyed, but again, it was basic and lacked sauce, while the fresh pasta was definitely a highlight. My portion was generous, especially with the meatballs, but my mother's dish was noticeably smaller. While they did have some vegan dessert options, most of them were sorbets or ice. The prices were reasonable, although I thought the meatball dish at £14 was a bit steep. The restaurant itself is lovely, with a great atmosphere, and the staff were very friendly. I would consider returning for a nice pasta meal, but I am puzzled about where their extensive vegan menu went. With the limited options available now, it's disappointing. This was an update to my previous review from July 21, 2022.
Really good, decent food, friendly and helpful staff and an entertaining atmosphere. I would like to visit and recommend the tiramisu
Wonderful dinner tonight – eat, wine, service, general mood. All right. if this is the future of london smart casual dining, then I am all for it. great new place thanks
I was really excited to try Pastaio as I had seen all the amazing vegan pasta that they had on offer. However, I was quite disappointed by the size of the vegan or ‘green’ menu. There were quite a few starter options such as olives and focaccia but the pasta/main dish options were lacking (only 3 options). There was tomato pasta, courgette or meatballs and they said on arrival that they didn’t have the courgette pasta due to stocking issues so there were only two options which were both tomato. I had the Vegan Meatballs which were amazing. The meatballs were really big and the best I’ve ever had! The pasta was really unusual and you could tell it was all homemade and fresh. The tomato sauce was really nice but quite basic. My mum had the tomato pasta option which she really enjoyed but again, it was very simple and didn’t have a lot of sauce on it but the fresh pasta was the highlight. My portion was really big with the meatballs but my mums dish was significantly smaller. They did have some vegan dessert options but they were mainly sorbets and ice creams. The prices are decent but my meatballs dish was £14 which I think was quite a lot. The restaurant itself is really nice and has a cool atmosphere and the staff are super friendly. I would go back there again for a nice pasta dish but I was confused as to where their large vegan menu has gone? With the reduced menu they aren’t offering a lot and the options are very limited now. Updated from previous review on 2022-07-21
I think it would be great if they could expand their vegan pasta options on the menu (they only have three as of late April 2024), ideally including one with a vegan cream sauce, and also consider increasing the portion sizes slightly. I’d rate the taste of the food a solid 4 out of 5, but the portion sizes and service brought my overall rating down to a 3. I wouldn’t rush back immediately, but I would definitely consider returning!
