Have been a customer for years, and I typically buy the Cumin Chicken. Called the other day to order Cumin Chicken. The woman on the phone insisted that it had NEVER been on the menu. I asked her to look at the takeout menu. She would not, just kept insisting it has never been on the menu. Wrong way to treat a long time customer. Food: 5 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3 View all feedback.
I highly recommend trying the red curry vegetables, tofu country style, and the avocado and sweet potato rolls. The lunch roll special is a great value, offering 2 or 3 sushi rolls and miso soup. The lunch specials also come with a delicious homemade cauliflower dessert. Although not listed on the menu, the owner also suggests trying the cold Mala-Tofu skin, a dish made with crushed tofu, shredded green peppers, hot paprika, and Szechuan pepper dressing. The cold Mala sesame noodles are also delicious, but could benefit from being paired with a sweet dish or added vegetables. While the portions may not be large, Peony offers unique dishes that cannot be found elsewhere in Newark. Overall, if you enjoy spicy food, you will be happy with the options available. The exception to this is the Mala-Tofu skin, which can be made milder upon request.
