Java Garden Cafe - Nelson
Java Garden Cafe
Description
A beloved locally owned café blends nostalgic bubble tea favorites with solid coffeehouse fare, from chai lattes to grilled sandwiches and bakery muffins. The menu includes vegetarian choices and kid-friendly treats, and the mall location offers free parking for quick stops. Expect a casual, family-oriented atmosphere and reliable takeout.
Quality and service can be uneven at times — occasional order mix-ups, missing decaf or butter, and inconsistent bubble-tea texture have been noted — but the cozy vibe and popular drinks keep regulars coming back.
Feedback
After a 4-hour drive and picking up groceries at Save-On, I was in need of a coffee and muffin. First, I ordered a decaf latte, but they didn't have decaf available, so I opted for a regular latte instead. To my surprise, I received regular coffee instead of a latte. I also asked if they could heat my muffin and provide a butter packet, but they said no butter was available. When I inquired about margarine, he said he had some. He went to another room and returned with a half-cup container that had enough margarine for ten muffins. Once I got to my truck and spread it on my muffin, I realized it was actually mayonnaise. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and the coffee wasn't good either.
I visited this locally owned coffee shop to meet my cousin for the first time in the past 10 years. The coffee and muffin were both quite good. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends.
This morning, I got an Americano to go and paid with a tap. I added an 18% tip but didn't check the total before completing the transaction. I later noticed that my credit card was charged $7.14. It's not a huge issue, just a lesson learned. However, I probably won't be returning to the Java Hut again.
