This place is awsome! Great food and service. They are very proud of what they provide and definitely should be. If you're in Nags Head it's a must try. Shout out to William who waited on us.
The BBQ was decent, but I’ve had better. The burger was enjoyable, but I wasn't a fan of the coleslaw. The wait staff were attentive and friendly, and the restrooms were very clean. I’d like to try the fried chicken, so I plan to return.
During my recent visit this summer, I found the ribs to be quite small and smothered in sauce, likely to compensate for the lack of proper cooking and meat. The fried shrimp I ordered was served cold. While the hush puppies and other fried items were passable, overall, I feel that the quality of the food at this restaurant has declined over the years. Additionally, our food took 45 minutes to arrive, despite there only being a few other tables occupied at the time. I don’t think I’ll be returning to Sooey’s, and unfortunately, I cannot recommend it.
I have to say, the moment you arrive, you instantly get the feeling it's going to be fantastic. If you’re familiar with BBQ, you know that the best places often have a casual atmosphere rather than fancy decor. Our expectations were high, and they certainly lived up to them! The service was outstanding – I didn’t catch the name of the young woman who attended us, but she provided excellent recommendations and was attentive to everything we needed. The brisket was spectacular; incredibly tender and flavorful. My wife raved about the pulled pork, saying it was absolutely delicious! However, the true highlights were the hush puppies and the BBQ sauce. They offered two types: one vinegar-based, which my wife adores, and the more traditional version. Both were simply phenomenal. I only wish I had tried the Brussels sprouts! Overall, I’d give it a 10/10 and would definitely return. It was such a unique and enjoyable experience!
