We went here for a quite bite to eat while in the area and the food is always very good. Chicken Kaarage wasn't quite up to my expectations, but the sushi rolls were good, and the service quick and friendly. View all feedback.
What User dislikes about Mr Munchies Sushi:
Eaten here a few times and it's been ok but tonight Ordered takeaway and was really disappointed on pick-up. Bento box was small and pretty disappointing for 17.50. Ordered teriyaki chicken for my son and was given a small amount of chicken and no rice which we discovered when we got home, so the kid ordered a pizza. All up including pizza $60 not so cheap takeaway meal.. wont be ordering takeaway from here again. View all feedback.
A liberating experience. Bespoke sushi, made right before your eyes. How can you *not* love this idea? Genius! I chanced upon this Subway-format sushi bar when I was travelling down the arcade that divides Grill 'd and Gelare in Mt Lawley. At the end of the passageway I discovered a funky little eatery, looking spanking new and begging for me to break it in. The way it works is like a Build-A-Bear for your sushi roll. Pick a base that will form the heart of your sushi about 16 options! . Then add your stuffing, like cucumber, carrot, raddish, tofu, bacon...Next select fancy toppings such as black sesame, garlic chips or Tobikko and finally pick from one of their Japanese sauces. Your sushi is then made fresh, in front of you. If you find yourself overwhelmed by the freedom of options, Mr. Munchies has some clever sushi combos to suggest. I went for the 'Seafood Roll ', Sml size $10.50 . Chunks of fresh salmon, cucumber and steamed prawn were wrapped artfully in reverse rice and seaweed, then topped with little chunks of tuna sashimi, chilli flake coils, wasabi mayo and chilli mayo. The effort given to presentation went beyond expectations for a casual sushi shop. The portion size satisfied too. This place is going to go off. And I can tell you now I am going to become a regular fixture here.
Mr munchies sushi? I'd never heard of it until recently, strange because it's in my hood yet I've never come across it. So I found that I had to locate and try this place out. The menu was pretty large and made it very difficult to choose from as there was so many bizarre yet intriguing things to want to try. As I was only coming in to get takeaway, I opted for a couple of sushi rolls to take back to a friends to share. Ended up with the duck confit roll and the teriyaki Kilpatrick pork roll. Was a little on the pricey side I have to say but with some of the stuff that goes in the rolls, I can kinda of understand why. When we dug into them I noticed how full they were. Lots of duck and prawns in the duck confit and the Kilpatrick roll was pretty chunky too. They were pretty good however I prefer my sushi to be neat small little rolls that you can just pop into your mouth. These rolls were massive. Taste wise it was pretty good. Enough for me to want to try some alternative dishes on the menu.
Um bacon wrapped sushi covered in melted cheese? Welcome to the bizarro world of Mr Muchies Sushi. It's a world were customer service is beyond friendly and helpful. It's a place where flavours from dishes such as oysters kilpatrick and potato salad are turned into sushi and taste incredible! You can also make your own, and put pretty much anything in your roll. However you must try a few of their slightly whacky specialties first, I highly recommend the potato salad. The rolls are huge, so a small serving of 4 pieces is enough for lunch.
Tucked in the back, passed Grill'd and Gelare is Mr Munchies in Mt Lawley. It is like subway for sushi and doesn't disappoint. It can be challenging at time to find table as most of ML has caught on to how cool this place is and put it top of their fave sushi restaurants. (Sigh! Nothing is a hidden gem for long). Don't be put off by the busyness and loud conversations, persist for the delightfully fresh sushi. My friend made me try the Mr Munchies Special sushi salad of chopped salmon, tuna and prawns with rocket and cherry tomato's with the wasabi aioli. If you're a fan of sashimi, you'll love this deconstructed sushi salad. After having this you'd only really need a serving of small sushi and you'd be right. However I indulged and shared the Chicken lover and Crunchy Spider Roll. Both hit the spot, leaving me pleasantly full. The spider roll is a favourite with the crunchy fresh crab with complementary flavours. Only bad thing is I don't like the drizzle sauce they put over the sushi as it ends up all over my fingers and ruins it for me. However I'm sure you can ask for it without. Next time I'm going to make my own and try the pick and mix sushi. I'll be to sure to tell you how it goes. Knowing me, either a success or a disaster if tastes.
Compared to other sushi places around Perth, I have to admit that this place is pretty impressive (in terms of the food). A friggen mazing. The only way to really describe it all would be like a Subway but for sushi. You can build your own but unlike the more controlling personality types, when it comes to food I like to see a list of a few options otherwise I get overwhelmed with choice (Yeah I freak out in food courts). The only problem with the place is that they're a victim of their own success cos this place was packed out within 20mins after I arrive (note for future self: get there before peak hour).
