Osaka - Mobile
Osaka
Description
A popular local Japanese spot mixes lively hibachi theater, a sushi bar, and standout items (notably a much‑loved tempura cheesecake and veggie bento) with friendly service and affordable prices. Recent patrons report inconsistency: some rave about fresh, flavorful rolls and entertaining chefs, while others note overcooked dishes, dry or warm sushi, smaller portions and spotty takeout service — possibly linked to ownership changes. Worth visiting for date night, family dinners or sushi lovers, but expect variable quality on any given night.

By far, the best place I have had sushi anywhere in the states. I worked in Mobile for a year on contract and tried all of the sushi places around. Osaka was always very pleasant, friendly, fresh and enjoyable. It has a really personal feel to the atmosphere and the service was great. I ended up becoming a regular, then began exploring more traditional sushi. That's when I realized how good Osaka's fish was. It needs no sauce, cooking, gimmicks, or hype. A cold Japanese beer and freshly cut tuna, snapper, salmon, mackeral, or whatever chef serves is always going to be delicious at Osaka in Mobile. I recommend trying the Fish Finger- raw instead of fried. Can't wait to visit again.
Favorite place for sushi!. We love going here for sushi! Have never been disappointed. The wait staff is very friendly. We usually sit at the sushi bar so we can watch the chef at work. Great place for a date night. We also enjoy the hibachi. The chefs are very entertaining. Food is always fresh. Only thing I've ever been disappointed with was the lobster. However, I'm one of those people who believe when you go to a restaurant that specializes in a certain cuisine, you should order just that. Their Japanese dishes are always great! Please give them a try!
Best sushi joint in Mobile in my opinion. Owners are super nice and cater to your every need. Black Pearl, The Paul, and Manhattan are my favorites.
The California roll was excellent; it’s pretty hard to go wrong with that. However, the crab Rangoon was disappointing. Although the triangle shape is quite large, it only contains about a tablespoon of cream cheese inside. The ratio just doesn’t work. I would give the Crab Rangoon a 1 out of 5.
