Was Kuei Da Liao at Kakiyuki a mag?
The cake was good, but was not really impressive because it was a little dry. Warabi mochi was something not easy to be found in the states. However, the powder was really not enough. Overall, was on a little pricey side. View all feedback.
What Greg C dislikes about Kakiyuki:
As of March 27, 2022, the restaurant has permanently closed. It's unfortunate they couldn't sustain their business, as they offered something quite unique to the area. View all feedback.
If you're a shaved ice enthusiast like me THIS IS THE SPOT! Even during a cold 57 degree winter day I would not turn down shaved ice. Here are my overall thoughts: Price: 5/5 I was initially a bit skeptical about the price. Shaved ice is mostly ice, right? Why am I paying so much for this? The shaved ice was frozen matcha that was shaved so it was flavor packed and in the center was filled with red beans and topped with an ENTIRE crème brûlée!! for around $13 it's definitely worth it as it's enough to share with 2-3 people or if you came on an empty stomach like me you can try to finish it on your own. Service: 5/5 Standard solid service with nice, friendly employees who are willing to help you decide in case you're indecisive like me. The shaved ice came promptly in around 10 mins, but since it was just my group and another group when I went at 5:30 on a Sunday I can't speak on how it would be during a crowded time. Food 5/5 The shaved ice was so good, the texture of the ice was spot on. It had a good matcha flavor which was complimented with the red beans and the crème brûlée which could be a dessert on its own. Make sure you eat from the sides/bottom to avoid it falling (you might wanna get extra cups to share) Overall it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and looking for a cold treat!
Too sweet to my liking.Got their hojicha snow ice, and it 's just so sweet somehow. I usually eat bingsoo and they are never this sweet. Maybe because this is Japanese shaved ice? So it 's different? Who knows.Anyway, I was specifically looking for some shaved ice around the area, and found this place. Glad I tried either way, so I know that their shaved ice is actually that sweet.Though don 't take my words completely. For some people, I 'm sure it 's not as sweet as what I experienced. All depends on your own sweetness tolerance. No restroom available (just FYI).
Such a cute cafe to check out! A hidden gem among the many restaurants and desserts spots on Broadway Ave. They specialize in kakigori (Japanese shaved ice), but they also have roll cakes, warabimochi, drinks, and more! For Lunar New Year, they had a seasonal special called the Lucky Momo. It had peach and lychee base, with housemade jellies, milk espuma, and the cutest peach butter cookie on top! The housemade jellies were incredible. Very dense and they melt in your mouth! Not chewy or overly sweet like the typical lychee jellies in boba drinks. I highly recommend trying this flavor while they have it for a limited time!
We came in and the first thing I noticed is that the storefront is very clean and pretty spacious considering the small space. We ordered the Pink Mont Blanc and Hoji Mountain Shaved Ice and I recommend getting it there as opposed to take out since you get more bang for your buck and out of the two I preferred the Hoji Mountain as it was slightly less sweet though both options were solid. I would say that this Shaved Ice is a little less creamy as I would have hoped but I did like the Warabimochi given the texture though I preferred Matcha to Kinako out of personal preference. All in all, a good option if you're in the area!
We came here on a Sunday afternoon. It's located in Millbrae downtown. The ambiance is very peaceful and the store decor was also simplistic and open. The wait time was relatively short and food came out within 10 or so minutes after ordering. There is sufficient indoors seating (no outdoor seating). We ordered the Black Samurai Kakigori, which is a Japanese style shaved ice with black sesame, coffee, almond brittle and coffee jelly. It was very flakey and you can taste the flavor of the black sesame in the shaved ice, which was sweet which combined with the slightly bitter coffee shaved ice inside was a delicious combination. There were pieces of almond brittle and coffee jelly inside as well. The shaved ice was refreshing to eat and not too sweet overall. I was not a big fan of the cream on top but everything else was delicious. It is a relatively big portion size and can be split between 2 people. Overall definitely enjoyed eating the kakigori here and will be back in the future to try other flavors as well!
