The Redwoods Inn - Mid Devon
The Redwoods Inn
Description
Nestled in a charming setting, this pub offers a mixed dining experience. While some patrons enjoyed hearty meals and warm hospitality, others were underwhelmed by the food quality, particularly with dishes like roast lamb and vegetarian options. The extensive menu shows promise, yet several commented that less choice could enhance food quality. Diners praised the friendly service and value, especially for Sunday roasts, but noted inconsistency in flavors and textures. Overall, the ambiance is inviting, making it a decent stop for casual meals, although it clearly requires attention to its culinary offerings to fully satisfy all guests.

I was a bit apprehensive having read the negative reviews but I can only assume that they went to a completely different place than we did. The food was great and well priced, all the staff were friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our visit. Wouldn't hesitate to eat there again.
I came in with my mum to have some food a bar lady greeted us. It was only us in the building. The bar lady didn’t smile nor talk much we ordered the lamb roast and had a coke which was just the syrup of the coke no soda at all. Very small car park we sat down by the window in the bar nothing was cleaned in over a yr what looked liked my mum went toilet and said they were not the cleanest the could of been. All the workers there looked tired of being there. The bar lady was playing slots on the computer and not paying any attention at all. I went to see what the restaurant looked like and it was dim no lights only lamps that looked filthy. Then I I heard a ding from the kitchen that sounded like it came from a microwave. The lady brought are food over with holding clothes however the plates were not hot at all it was to make look that they were hot. Everything on the plate was microwaved and the carrots were really salts and was lifeless nothing was fresh. While she was playing slots she hadn’t relished we have been finished for a while after 7 mins later she took the plates she never asked if we enjoyed are meal which we both didn’t. I asked for the dessert menu and she brought a chalk board over it was hard to read since they wrote it in kids chalk. I had the brownie and ice cream. The brownie didn’t taste like a homemade brownie it taste like they bought it from a company. We left and a man said thank u in a sluggish way. Until I realise that they flipped the sign over for closed when it says in there website 12-12 which is obviously false. The place look like it have retired with all the workers there. Very horrible and disappointing will not be coming again. I do not recommend!
Visited with a friend for lunch at 1 p.m. and, apart from us, the restaurant and bar were completely empty. We now know why! I ordered roast lamb which came microwaved, grey and unappetising and my friend ordered haddock florentine which was over cooked, dry and hard. The vegetables were a microwaved soggy mess that tasted of nothing. On collection the nearly full plates were taken with no query other than “have you finished”. On the plus side the building was nice and warm on a cold, wet day. We paid but will not return
Visiting a friend who is looking to move into the area and popped in to try the local free house. Despite being managed by relief staff we were welcomed and enjoyed one of the best value Sunday roasts we’ve had for a long time. It’s pub food but at pub prices, it exceeded our expectations. Well done
Best possible value for a short Sunday lunch stop on a journey west. Lovely meal choice of Pork or Beef plus really delicious choice of veg. All beautifully cooked not overcooked Just right) for £8.80 No frills looking local pub with good food. It says outside NoDogs but they let us sit in the lean too at the front with our dog in the glorious winter sunshine.
