Was Joan at Back Door Monkey a mag?
The hookah here is the best I’ve ever experienced in Miami—absolutely exceptional! During happy hour, it’s quite affordable at $50, and if you share it with a friend, it’s definitely a great deal.
I also tried the “Treason 101” cocktail, which had a pronounced flavor of cilantro syrup and didn't have much of the Union mezcal. At first, I was a bit let down, but I eventually got accustomed to the taste and was able t... View all feedback.
What Marlena R dislikes about Back Door Monkey:
Came here on A Friday night after the dinner rush and before the more club-ish vibes settled in. It wasn't that busy and there were plenty of empty tables, but somehow it took 10 minutes to be greeted by our server, another 25 minutes for our drinks to come, and 45 minutes to receive the two rolls we had ordered!! Our server was perfectly nice but clearly there's a problem with the operational flow that's slowing things down to a ridiculous point.
Juanita is the best server ever!!! The food is so tasty and the drinks are amazing, I love this place ?
Have heard a few good things about this place, so wanted to check it out. Sadly our dining experience was fairly average. First red flag was the complete lack of any kind of host at the front of the restaurant. This place takes a $30 deposit on OpenTables to insure against no shows, so one would think they would make sure to have a host/hostess ready to greet you. However, despite only about 4 tables being occupied and about 6 staff members congregating in the bar area (many just casually chatting to each other), no one bothered to say hello or see why we were there. After about 5 full minutes of standing around looking lost I finally went up to one of the employees and asked whether the hostess stand was located elsewhere in the restaurant. At this point we were told sorry, I thought someone took care of you and finally got sat. Service after that was just ok, with dishes taking longer than expected to come out considering what we ordered. The music was loud, which is fine, but it did make it difficult to get anyone 's attention. The food was decent, but overpriced. While the ceviche tasted good, the ratio of seafood to filler seemed to be less than 1:1. The pork belly also had great flavor, but arrived to the table lukewarm and a few of the chunks that weren 't as fatty were pretty dry. The Octopussy roll had so much sauce on top, it overpowered the roll itself and had to be scraped off. The bill totaled $160+ after tip for two, which seemed way over the top for what we got in terms of food, drinks, and service. In all, probably won 't come back..
I got completely captivated by the interior design and all the pictures of the food here looked absolutely incredible. So we decided to make a reservation for one of my friends birthday here for a party of 8 and all I can say was WOWWWW. We made thereservation for a Sunday afternoon and from the moment we walked in the staff was completely on point. They made sure everyaspect of our meal from drinks, to appetizers, to the main course was taken care of and we luckily also stumbled by during happyhour. So most of the sushis, select appetizers, and drinks were half off. We couldn’t have planned it out anymoreperfectly. But now let’s get on with the good stuff, THE FOOD. All the sushi rolls I tried were extremely good but the onethat really blew me away was the pork belly sushi. I know what you’re thinking, why would you ever put that on sushi but trustme!! The flavors just exploded in your mouth which left you craving the next bite every time. The Octopu**y roll was my secondfavorite with the nice little display of it being torched in front of you being a nice touch. Overall, incredible experienceand I will continue to recommend this place to anyone looking to have a chill back time with friend and good food. TheFashionable Foodie
Cute spot for a lively dinner. The outdoor area had a DJ and the vibe was very fun. The food is pretty decent but there were lots of fried things and things covered in sauce. If you are looking for a upscale Asian fusion meal for the quality of food, Iwould look somewhere else.
