Nestled along the A37 near Shepton Mallet, this café offers a mixed dining experience. While the food quality has received praise—particularly their hearty breakfasts—customer service has emerged as a recurring issue. Many patrons report unwelcoming staff, slow service, and unsatisfactory responses to complaints, such as raw or improperly served meals. Despite some moments of excellence, such as accommodating staff stepping up to serve during staff shortages, the overall impression remains inconsistent. Guests are encouraged to book in advance to avoid disappointment, as the café can fill up quickly, despite having empty tables during peak times.
We decided to try a new restaurant for our daughters' birthday weekend, as we usually go somewhere else. Unfortunately, our experience at this restaurant can be summed up in one word: disappointing. The waitress at the door was very unfriendly and it took a while for our orders to be taken. When our food finally arrived, it came in staggered intervals, with one meal being served much later than the rest. Additionally, the offer of sauces came after we had nearly finished our meals, with no apology from the staff. It would have been better for them to either wait and serve all meals together or offer free drink refills. Despite the good food, the lack of basic service etiquette left a bad impression.
We arrived at 12.30 a.m. and there were only three more tables with customers. we ordered our drinks and were willing to order food, but was told to the chef that they would come a bit later. finally ordered two panninis. but they took out forever to get out. to insult, two men who came after us got their food first. that was nice to eat, but that was annoying. I'm afraid to think how it's when busy
I've been eating in this fantastic caffe for over 10 years. always great eating and the staff are excellent. yesterday morning I came to my 8 o'clock reservation to be informed that the cook had been made sick and would not participate in that today most caffes would probably have locked the door. not this one! the beautiful michelle stepped up to the brand, donated a spicy and went into the kitchen. 15 minutes later I was served a great breakfast. what more can they demand? if they wish to eat good, served by great people, they do not see further. everything I would say is to book in advance or they can be disanoinated!
The staff at this restaurant was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast/brunch menu offered great options at reasonable prices. However, the food could have been much hotter. It seemed like it was not cooked to order, but prepared in advance. It's a shame because the ingredients were of high quality.
We stopped by to pick up a panini to go and chose the bacon and Brie option. The bacon was lean and the panini was filled generously with Brie. The side salad was fresh and overall we were satisfied with our order.
