Was Lew Brakus at Cafe on Bourke a mag?
This is a hidden little gem at the top of Bourke Street. Not the most attractive frontage and you would walk past it without knowing how good the food is. What Bernita Turcotte dislikes about Cafe on Bourke:
Really upset, thinking of enjoying a lovely lunch for my birthday, after previously enjoying good food here. Staff seemed a bit uninterested and a bit sloppy. Food was not up to scratch for the price Pizza was not generous at all Seafood consisted with one prawn on each slice no other seafood to be seen Chilli prawns was pathetic with hardly any veggies And food only covered half the plate, not acceptable. This is a hidden little gem at the top of Bourke Street. Not the most attractive frontage and you would walk past it without knowing how good the food is. Staff are very friendly and accommodating and we ate here three times during last week...of December, after visiting better known and higher priced restaurants at Docklands Carlton. We took the opportunity to order different meals every time and all were outstanding with a Hawaiian pizza the stand out. The only suggestion I would give the Chef is to tenderise the veal prior to crumbing as it will reduce the toughness of this type of beef. Meals are large and very well priced. Recommend if you are visiting Melbourne and looking for good well priced food over ambience and atmosphere, visit this Cafe.
Excellent food, value and service. Arrived early, so served quickly although appeared very well organised.
We stumbled across this place because Pelligrini's up the road was too busy and we were looking for a pre-theater pizza. We were ushered in by a delightful Italian man and promptly seated. Our orders were taken and meal delivered quickly. My daughter and I shared a medium pizza which was very filling and delicious. Staff were very friendly and efficient. So glad we found this place!
Do not overlook this hidden gem of a laid-back restaurant. They also offer takeout if you prefer a relaxed meal in front of the TV. They accommodate food allergies and have friendly staff.
The food here is excellent and plentiful. The value is stunning and the staff are friendly. The (sad) downside is that the place is not hugely busy and lacks any real ambiance. But if you just want a straight up and down honest to gosh...meal, then don’t bother looking any further.
