Folk offers a variety of culinary experiences, from delicious midweek lunches with bang-on flavors, like chicken linguine and steak pie, to celebratory moments for patrons looking to indulge after a hiatus. However, the restaurant's charm is overshadowed by inconsistent service and troubling staff interactions. Diners frequently reported slow service, long waits for food and drinks, and a disconcerting atmosphere exacerbated by loud music. Despite the appetizing food options and pleasant outdoor seating, many left feeling undervalued and disappointed. While some commend the quality of dishes, others caution about the overall dining experience. A restaurant with potential, yet needing improvement.
Great place to grab some lunch. Popped in on a Tuesday and had a delicious steak pie, sourced from The Great North Pie Co. with excellent sides. Lovely staff and atmosphere.
Consistently great service. The outside bit is nice to relax and enjoy coffee/beer. Usually busy on a weekday afternoon which is a good sign and fun as most of the other places are shut or dead!
Head in hands bad. Arrived early on Bank Holiday Monday for brunch. Not busy. Got food menus, eventually ordered some coffee, which took a strangely long time to arrive. Then took food order. Then pretty much ignored while others arrived, got their food, still nothing for us. After 45 mins, I left some money for the coffees and we left. No excuse for service that bad. Won’t be back. Happily elsewhere now for brunch.
The bar was fantastic, but unfortunately, the experience was ruined by the overpowering music and unpleasant staff. When we asked for the music to be turned down in the early evening, our requests were ignored by the staff. Even when the manager was informed, they instructed the DJ to ignore us and increase the volume. Our group felt discriminated against, especially when we learned that younger customers also preferred the music at a lower volume.
Went to Folk to celebrate getting over a long illness and had my first burger in over 2 years. Suffice to say i’ll be going back for another soon. Great, friendly service. Always treated well here. Recommended.
