Was Mustafa Mraz at Moonshadows a mag?
All three of the vegan entrees on the summer menu were really good, but the empanadas were definitely the best! The waitress brought me a steak knife for my tofu and I was really confused, lol. My omni parents really loved the spring rolls. Updated from previous review on 2018-07-13 View all feedback.
What kmau dislikes about Moonshadows:
There are not many vegetarian/vegan restaurants in the area, so this restaurant is a nice choice with a charming atmosphere. However, when we arrived, the brunch menu only offered one option. The pasta was okay, but the portion size was small for a lunch meal. I was still hungry after finishing my dish. They had one local wine on the menu that was delicious (although I am unsure if it is vegan). We also ordered a coc... View all feedback.
My boyfriend surprised me with a bed and breakfast for our anniversary, and we were excited to try Moonshadows, the restaurant next door, because their menu looked promising. We arrived five minutes early for our reservation and were promptly seated. Unfortunately, that was the only positive part of our experience. We waited over fifteen minutes and were never attended to. Two other groups were seated after us and received bread and water before we did. Feeling neglected, we eventually got up and left, informing the hostess of our decision. A young girl apologized for the oversight, blaming the busyness of the night, but we were only offered an apology. As we were leaving, our waitress suddenly appeared and apologized, claiming she was not informed that we had been seated, despite passing by us multiple times to serve other tables. While we understand that it was a busy Saturday during a holiday weekend, the lack of service was unacceptable. We have no desire to return or recommend this restaurant to anyone.
We chose this restaurant to celebrate two birthdays and a reunion with lifelong friends we hadn't seen in over two years. We mentioned it was for a big birthday when we called, and the hostess acknowledged it to our guests upon arrival, bearing gifts. We had an early 6 PM reservation and were told there was only one soup left, but miraculously two ended up at our table, albeit a bit watered down. The appetizers and main dishes were really delicious. However, we encountered a dessert fiasco. There were only four choices, and the birthday couple ordered the chocolate torte and three slices to go for others who couldn't make it to dinner due to being sick. The waitress returned to say they were already out of one dessert and it would take thirty minutes to glaze the torte. We agreed to order a different dessert with coffee and just box up the slices to go. To our surprise, the waitress then told us the chef wouldn't do it as they were closing for vacation for a week. The alternative dessert we received was a tasteless, dry cupcake-sized carrot cake with no birthday acknowledgment. Overall, the preparation and service were terrible. With a 6 o'clock reservation, we had hoped for better efforts and a birthday celebration. A candle at least? The torte was made, so why not finish it and offer the remaining portion to take home or freeze? We will not be returning.
I went to the restaurant for Thanksgiving with friends and had a fantastic experience. The atmosphere was beautiful and our waitress, Jen, was very attentive and knowledgeable. The food was incredible with uniquely delicious flavor pairings in every dish. The oysters were buttery and tender, the butternut soup was creamy and flavorful, and the beer-brined turkey melted in your mouth. The braised red cabbage had a wonderful flavor, the mashed potatoes were fluffy, and the green beans were crunchy-tender. And to top it off, the light and airy pumpkin mousse was the perfect ending to a filling meal. I was pleased to see that their menu is available online and changes with the season, showing their attention to detail. This wasn't just a meal, it was a whole experience. Keep up the great work, I will definitely be returning!
Jon and Maureen, along with their team, are extremely welcoming and consistently provide tasty vegetarian and vegan choices on their rotating menus. Just keep an eye out for the (V) (VG) labels. In addition to their plant-based offerings, they also offer non-vegetarian options, which is why they may not receive a perfect rating on Happy Cow. I highly recommend this restaurant!
We also ordered a cocktail that was overly sweet. Towards the end of the meal, the service staff seemed to disappear and we had to wait a long time to receive the bill, pay, and leave. I would consider returning mainly due to the limited options in the area, but I would hope to see a wider variety of choices on the menu.
