Was Matias Morais at A Baiuca a mag?
Best Fado in Lisbon! Wonderful small restaurant, friendly and hospitable staff, the best singers in an authentic small hole in the wall. We also had dinner there and were pleasantly surprised by the quality and affordable prices! View all feedback.
What Road18225891593 dislikes about A Baiuca:
We booked a table a month in advance for fado night and they gave our table to someone because we were 8 minutes late. We even texted them that we will be late a little bit because we got stuck in traffic. So good luck with this place, if you have a reservation don’t count on it! View all feedback.
I spent a fantastic moment in a Baiuca. Amazing live genuine fado in a tiny lovely place. The food and drinks are very tasty too.
Great place with nice food. Real fado music and a lovely atmosphere. However, they only take cash and don’t seem to tell you that beforehand. They were very lucky we had cards to pull out cash, rather than on our phones, and were honest enough to come back from the atm. I have now edited my review due to the response from the restaurant. I am utterly disgusted to learn that the waiter blatantly lied to us, claiming they only accept cash when, in reality, they also accept card payments. It is deeply troubling that the waiter failed to disclose the true reason behind this misinformation, neglecting to mention that the card machine may have been broken or was it just because they wanted cash which I had to pay a fee to take out at an ATM. Such dishonesty not only tarnishes the dining experience but also raises serious concerns about the integrity of the establishment. This lack of transparency is completely unacceptable, and it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
I have visited and eaten in many places with fado music in Lisbon but this place was my favourite one!I can't wait to go back!
Check your bill before paying, the day after, we realised they charged an extra bottle of wine and 3 desserts extra
A boutique fado listening experience, run by a powerhouse of women. Finger-licking delicious local dishes. Everything is cooked, served, and sung with full hearts. I truly wish continued and growing success to this amazing team who fully deserve it. The legendary fado singer Fernanda Proença is an absolute star. She walks in with elegance and calmly takes her seat, patiently waiting for everyone to settle and for the orders to be sorted. There is a lovely rhythm between the food service and the short breaks in the performance, because trust me, you do not want to be making shrimp noises on your plate while Fernanda is pouring her heart out with her voice. It turned into an unforgettable night for us. Fernanda’s deep, powerful voice and her way of singing with such resilience made us feel that fado is, in part, about standing tall and proud in the face of life’s sorrow. As her resonant voice shakes us and the walls around us, she invites Clara, the young owner of the restaurant, to join her. And Clara, what a fierce and elegant force, surprises everyone by stepping in for a beautiful duet with Fernanda. Yes, Fernanda moves you to tears, but also makes you chuckle with her childlike joy, expressive gestures, and whimsical reactions to the space and the people. Though she does not speak English, she told our relatively senior table neighbors that seeing young people like us reminds her of her own youth, and maybe theirs too. When I heard the translation of what she said, I felt responsible to tell her that she is a badass in a nice way, so I wrote my message in English and translated it into Portuguese. I showed it to her on my phone: “Your powerful voice and charismatic presence are timeless. There is no lost youth.” She could not read it herself, so she called Clara from the kitchen to read it aloud. And when she heard it, she kissed me on the forehead. Without speaking a mutual language, it suddenly felt like we had known each other for a long time. We connected simply and deeply. Honestly, these are the moments that make all the miles you fly from the other side of the world so worth it. It goes far beyond just food and drinks. That being said, this was also one of the best meals we had in Lisbon. Thank you, Clara and the whole team, for the experience. And thank you, Fernanda, for singing your heart. We wish Fernanda, Clara, and everyone at the restaurant continued success. You truly deserve it. Price per person: €45–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
