This was our second visit to the restaurant. The ambiance was very nice and the staff was friendly, providing us with excellent hospitality. We ordered seafood pizzas, lammkottu, veechu roti, and spicy fish curry, all of which were amazing. The highlight was the watalappan dessert. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the food and the service. The restaurant offers a wide variety of Sri Lankan food that is not too spicy. On weekends, they have a buffet where you can enjoy unlimited appam. You can also request music for an additional fee. The buffet menu is priced at £17.90 and includes two types of rice, two choices of meat or fish, and various vegetables. It is recommended to make a reservation in advance. This restaurant served the worst unauthentic and tasteless food we have ever had. We ordered several curries and dishes, but everything was bland and disappointing. The hoppers had a sour taste, as if the batter had been left to ferment for weeks. The curries were watery and the portions were small, almost comical considering the high prices. The mutton curry looked like a joke, and overall the portion sizes were more like tapas. The lack of customers in the restaurant made sense after we tasted the food. The service was unprofessional and the waiters seemed confused and disorganized. We do not recommend this restaurant and suggest finding a better Sri Lankan option. We have visited around 12 Sri Lankan restaurants in London, and this is the worst we have encountered. The food arrived late and was not worth the wait. We ended up going to another restaurant afterwards.
I had the most disappointing meal of 2024 at this restaurant, and the service was terrible as well. My wife and I were the only ones dining at 6:45pm. I ordered chicken curry with egg hopper, while my wife ordered mutton curry with vechu roti. It took over 20 minutes for them to prepare our food, despite being the only customers in the restaurant. The portions of chicken curry were tiny, so I ordered an extra portion. However, the chef simply reheated the existing curry and added water to it. When I mentioned the slow service to the staff, they offered to cancel the entire bill, which didn't feel right to me. I asked them to just remove the chicken curry from the bill instead. The manager then insisted that since we complained after finishing our meal, we still had to pay for it. This kind of service was unprecedented for me, and it's no surprise the restaurant is always empty. I recommend avoiding this place. You can find better Sri Lankan food at Virundhu just 5 minutes away. I definitely won't be returning here.
The food was delicious and the service was attentive. We had a pleasant dining experience.
I would not even bother going there, we have booked for 25 people. They gave the smallest portions ever and there was just too much sauce so they could sell smaller portions. As we pre booked, we wanted to have some music, but apparently, music wasn't available, and they didn't know how to switch it on. The service was very poor, we had to keep going to the bar and ask for cutlery, cups etc, we even had to arrange the tables ourselves. Visited here twice- staff are polite, respectful, helpful and efficient. 1st visit, ordered appa, chicken curry and sambol- all food was tasty and authentic. The waiter suggested that we order an additional plain appa, saying that it would be ‘on the house’when the bill arrived, we noticed that they charged us- that was sly and disappointing- nobody likes to be cheatedso be aware of this tactic they use. 2nd visit, ordered chicken curry and rotti- food was again delicious. Ordered a takeaway from here of Chicken Lampreis- food was delicious- surprised with the basmati rice used here instead of samba rice- still delicious. Impressed that they offered cadju (cashew nut) curry because not all restaurants serving Lampreis offer cashew nut curry- grateful and enjoyed. The wambatu (eggplant) fry, ala thel dala (chilli Potatoe fry), seeni sambol (chilli onion fry), chicken curry and egg were all tasty. It’s a shame that the fish cutlet was burnt- though this still tasted nice. Overall, I would recommend visiting here.
