The original Bombay cafes have almost all disappeared. Their faded elegance welcomed rich businessmen, sweaty taxi-wallas, and courting couples. Fans turned slowly, and bentwood chairs were reflected in stained mirrors next to sepia family portraits. Students had breakfast, families dined, lawyers read briefs, and writers found their characters. Opened early last century by Zoroastrian immigrants from Iran, there were almost four hundred cafes at their peak in the 1960s. Now, fewer than thirty remain, and their loss is deeply mourned by Bombayites.

Dishoom presents a vibrant dining experience that captures the essence of Indian cuisine with a modern twist. The menu, featuring a variety of sharing plates, showcases flavorful dishes that receive praise for their quality, although some items can be on the pricier side. While excellent ambiance and attentive service often enhance the experience, inconsistencies in service and occasional menu item unavailability can detract from visits. Despite these hiccups, customers appreciate the restaurant's welcoming atmosphere and recommend savoring the delicious food, particularly unique dishes like the Broccoli and various lamb options. A visit promises a lively and enjoyable outing.
I have been to Pakistan and have tried food with a similar flavor, as well as food in Southall. In comparison, the food at this restaurant was average. However, I would consider returning due to the amazing ambiance and customer service. The staff treated me very well, the food was served hot, and the wait time was minimal. It's important to note that the prices can be high, so it's best to plan ahead. Reservations are also recommended for this establishment.
This is my favorite restaurant in London, I make sure to visit at least twice every trip. The flavors, ambiance, and drinks are all top-notch. I highly recommend it.
The food at this restaurant is outstanding! It is by far the best Indian food that our family has ever tried, and we have traveled to many different places around the globe. Our favorite dishes were the sweet potato chaat, the spicy prawns, a variety of chicken dishes, and the potato dishes. We will definitely be returning!
We had good things from a friend and coming from overseas we knew we wanted good Indian food. We were blown away. Everything from the service to the atmosphere, to the food was incredible. We had mentioned it was our honeymoon and they surprised us with desert. I highly recommend. Meal type: Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Went there at about 7pm and it was full. Waiting time was about 40 minutes. We were served lemonade or chai while waiting. We were then ushered to our table at the basement. We were seated opposite the semi-open kitchen so it was cool to see the live cooking. Food ordered came within minutes. It was piping hot and crazy delicious. Not much a fan of Indian food in general but the biryani was marvellous. The wait staff was attentive and came in to check from time to time. Overall a nice dining experience but it could get a little pricey. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £60–70 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
