I've been a loyal customer at SushiMari Lido since 2020, and it's consistently been the best sushi spot in Funchal. Many of the staff recognize me because I always emphasize my severe shellfish allergy. However, today, at SushiMari Lido, I was served a plate with shellfish. When I informed the waitress, she took my plate to the person at the counter. Shockingly, he removed the fried sushi with his bare hands. The waitress then brought the plate back to me. I expressed my concerns, explaining that I saw what had happened, and I no longer wanted to eat the remaining sushi. I raised the issue with the manager at SushiMari Lido, who apologized. But, to my surprise, another staff member delivered my check and suggested that next time, I shouldn't eat the food if I could see it contained shellfish. I tried to clarify that I didn't realize it was shellfish until I bit into the roll. He failed to address how the food was handled when it was taken back. Thankfully, I had taken allergy medication before coming, so I was okay. However, this gentleman seemed to imply that I was trying to get a free meal. What bothered me most wasn't the mistake of including shellfish; it was the unsanitary handling of the food with bare hands while the waitress held the plate. Also, the failure to offer a remake of my plate which would have been a better option.They didn’t charge me however, it should have been a choice of remaking the food or taking it off the bill.
Did not know what to expect from this place as we wanted a casual experience and my daughter loves sushi so we go all over to find it. Tuna here is amazing but so is the whole experience well done.
What do you want me to say? I ordered the tataki saki to begin, which was absolutely divine, which we had the 'freestyle' sushi to sashimi (38 pieces), which were all totally delicious! would recommend everyone and will definitely visit a return! well done!
Maybe we chose the wrong things but its normal sushi. The hot roll menu is too much from a stand point of fried sushi. The normal sushi was ok. Vegans menus are available which is nice. Maybe the other dishes are better.
