Was Isobel Zieme at Fleig's Cafe a mag?
Was back in Southern Indiana for a wedding and needed a dinner. Stopped by Fleig's and got some chicken teeth and German pommes. And these German Pommes! Reminiscent of home cooking, delicate potatoes and onions fried to perfection. The chicken teeth seemed to be baked and were juicy inside. What a surprise We jumped off the expressway and decided to get a bite at the local tavern We all had the daily special.
We've stopped here before when traveling and always had a good meal, so we decided to stop again as we were nearby. They have the best fried chicken meals of anyplace around. So we walked in and sat down at the last table available. Seems as though everybody in the area was hungry for Chicken at the same time. Ed came from behind the bar and asked us what we would like. We said fried chicken of course. He got a sad look on his face, apologized and said they were all out. And it was only 12:10. Said they served almost 100 orders, said he would be glad to fix us something else. While we were very disappointed, we decided to order alternatives. I ordered a double cheeseburger and buffalo fries. He brought it hot off the grill and it was absolutely delicious. My wife ordered the breaded chicken fillet sandwich and buffalo fries. Also delicious. The prices are outrageous and reasonable. We had a great meal for $10.00. If you travel anywhere close to Ferdinand make sure you stop in for a meal. They also have a full bar and beer by the case, also at outrageous prices. You can't go wrong stopping here.
Chicken hearts. A must try! I couldn't believe I liked her when I finally tried her when I was in the middle of the 20s. Great fried chicken too.
