Small, quiet and classy Italian food.The online menu is not in English and their printed menus do not explicitly identify gluten-free dishes but when I visited (September 2014) they had a a knowledgeable and fluent english speaking hostess who was able to confirm gluten-free options including a choice of starters, mains and desserts. This restaurant offers a true variety of foods not just the typical Italian style. Food was fresh and well prepared. The wine menu was mainly Italian but the choices were acceptable to most prices levels. I would definitely recommend if you are in Essen. Enjoy?

First I must state that the food at this place is quite extraordinary. I've been there quite often and we never had anything to complain about a meal. On the downside though the service is not very welcoming. The waiters have quite an attitude, almost...never saying please thanks or excuse me And even though the food is superb whenever I am at this place and don't feel comfortable. Would I recommend this place? To be honest: No, I wouldn't.
For me, Ristorante Lucente on Rüttenscheider Straße is one of the best Italian restaurants in Essen . As soon as you arrive, you can feel the Mediterranean flair – a warm ambiance, stylish decor, and an atmosphere that immediately makes you want to eat good food. The menu is authentically Italian and offers an excellent selection: homemade pasta , crispy pizza , fresh fish dishes , and succulent meat specialties
The lobster was incredibly fresh, the risotto with the pike-perch delicious. The service was very respectful and attentive. A hidden gem in Essen. 5 stars without a doubt.
