I went to this place for a business lunch. The bread we ordered was warm, can't say the same for the staff who were all too busy being edgy to care much that they had paying customers. I had some hesitation about Alta due to seeing mixed reviews but decided to try it because of the emphasis on local food. I am very glad I gave it a shot because I had one of the best meal I have enjoyed in Edmonton. The chef prepares and serves your food, and is paid a living wage, so no tipping.Pickled plums, rice pudding, and mussels were highlights. The menu changes every few weeks. Reasonably priced.
Finally a place that carries Alberta inspired dishes based on our traditions, culture and seasons. The execution is good, and that's the important part. They are authentic and I hope that people who really believe in eating local and all of that support this place because it's legit.
I had a great time at Alta. It felt like dining in a experimental kitchen.
Alta is the ideal place for a stylish and trendy dinner, especially during the summer months.
