Nestled in a converted old house, Skip’s is a beloved south side gem celebrated for its cozy ambience and excellent service. Patrons rave about the flavorful pasta, expertly crafted cocktails, and generous portion sizes, making it a perfect choice for date nights or casual outings. While some dishes like ribeye steaks and certain appetizers received mixed reviews, the overall dining experience is bolstered by the warm, friendly staff and delightful atmosphere. It doesn’t get much better than Skips. Food, drinks, service… All 10/10. If you're a first timer, I recommend the onion rings or bruschetta for appetizers. For entrees, the blackened chicken is my absolute favorite thing on the menu, but everything is good!
Ordered take out. The other items that were ordered were good. However my ribeye steak was terrible. It was maybe a choice grade steak. That was tough and extremely chewy. The fat had no color. Like they never seared the steak to begin with. I will not be ordering a steak from here again. Unless the price is reduced.
This place reminds me of an old school supper club. The service was great and the prices were of great value! My wife loved the mussels!
Everything was very tasty! Loved the atmosphere had a very similar vibe to Greenbriar and Chicago speakeasy.
This is actually the first review I?ve ever written, and I?m writing it because I feel that our experience tonight shouldn?t go unnoticed. We came in at like 9 and they close at ten, our server was Julie and she was amazing, I don?t think I?ve ever had abetter server anywhere, and that means a lot coming from me because I?ve been a server myself for many years until the past fewmonths. The food was amazing, like it has been the 3 or four times we?ve been there, steak a perfect rare, asparagus cookedperfectly, etc., that also means a lot coming from us, because my husband is an ex chef with 20plus years experience in thekitchen, and we are used to perfection at home(when he cooks ????)When we go out to eat, we like to try the various higher endlocal restaurants as opposed to the chains, and of all the local Des Moines restaurants Skips is the only one we?ve been to morethan twice, and I think there is only one other we?ve been to twice. Now back to the service, we were made to feel comfortableand so encouraged to enjoy our time by Julie, I was seriously amazed and I have never been so impressed. We were even thosejerks who stayed past closing (but we didn?t even know it until we looked at the time ourselves), because we were treated sokindly. My experience today at Skip?s with Julie as our server really made my birthday special, and I thank the Lord for such ablessed evening ?? -edit: I guess I wrote a few reviews years ago and didn?t remember
