The Duck Inn, a longstanding fixture for Midwestern cuisine, offers a blend of nostalgia and culinary tradition that, unfortunately, is marred by inconsistent dining experiences. While some patrons rave about the authentic Wisconsin Old Fashioned and perfectly cooked steaks, others report underwhelming meals marked by poor service and overcooked dishes. Guests have expressed disappointment in both portion sizes and food quality, including lukewarm entrees and lackluster appetizers. Despite its potential to charm, the restaurant's service shortcomings, notably indifferent staff and long wait times, have led many to reconsider their return. A quintessential supper club, it seems, requires more than just a legacy.
This was my first time at this restaurant. Throughout the meal, the servers reached over and in front of us almost every time, even spilling warm water on me twice. We ordered four prime rib dinners, but only one was cooked as ordered. The other three were severely overcooked. The side dishes were very small portions and poorly made, except for the stuffed mushrooms which were very good. The Brussel sprouts with bacon were all burnt with no bacon, and the lobster had an overwhelming garlic flavor. Everything was lukewarm at best. The food preparation seemed careless considering the high pricing. We complained to the waitress, who then sent the manager over. They disagreed with all our comments and only offered one free drink card for our poor dining experience. We will never go back there again, so beware. I have read other reviews that were much better than our experience, but I almost don't believe them as they seem fake. Trust me, this review is not fake!
I was very disappointed with the portion of food we received for the price we paid. The waiter was excellent, so we tipped him 20% (not his fault). The next morning, I contacted the owner to inquire if they had the same chef, and they confirmed they did. I mentioned the prices on their website, which were lower than what we were charged. The owner admitted they needed to update their prices, which were actually higher. Despite enjoying dining there in the past, I have decided not to return due to the poor quality and high prices. The owner did not make any effort to rectify the situation. Additionally, the brandy old fashioned drink was not up to par. Overall, it was a lot of money to spend for such low quality food and service.
I have driven past this restaurant countless times over the past 40 years, but I never had a chance to stop until today. I was absolutely amazed by the duck dish we had.
This place is not what it used to be at all. Our server seemed to lack basic knowledge about serving a table, which was quite disappointing given the prices we paid. We could have received better service at a lesser establishment. Overall, it was very underwhelming. I recommend spending your money elsewhere, as it seems the staff no longer cares about providing a good experience. It's a shame. Also, the prices are outrageous for the quality of food served.
