Nestled near the Coventry Music Museum, Simmer Down captivates with its friendly atmosphere and vibrant 2 Tone decor. Diners rave about the reasonable prices and inviting staff, creating a sense of community. While some dishes, like the jerk chicken, were noted as occasionally dry, many patrons enjoyed their Caribbean breakfasts and substantial portions. The venue stands out not just for its food, but for its commitment to customer satisfaction, making visitors feel like part of a big family. For both locals and travelers alike, this restaurant is a must-visit culinary gem in Coventry.
Brilliant service, tasty food mutton curry, rice and peas and fried dumplings. Tried the festive hot chocolate, chocolate with a shot of Bailey's topped with cream....delicious, I had 2. Highly recommended, plus there is the 2 tone museum that's well worth a visit.
I stopped by for lunch with friends before going to the museum. We were greeted warmly and the restaurant had a mix of locals and museum visitors. We shared jerk chicken and a Caribbean Breakfast with jerk sausage and delicious ackee and saltfish. We washed it down with a pint of Red Stripe. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of food. If I lived closer, I would definitely be a regular customer.
This venue was recommended during a visit to Coventry to see a 2 Tone music event. The ‘Village’ didn’t disappoint a wonderful trip down memory Lane for all lovers of 2 Tone/Ska music. The museum was filled with original memorabilia of iconic Coventry bands, including the car used in the ‘Ghost Town’ video by The Specials. The volunteer staff were extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and made the visit even more enjoyable. Well worth the £5.00 per person entry fee. Would definitely recommend on a visit to this interesting City.
