Tucked into the old Chugiak post office, this family‑run café is a nostalgic, community staple serving breakfast and lunch on weekends. On‑site coffee roasting, free coffee with orders, beans to take home, and house specialties—from biscuits and gravy to The Bomber waffle, cinnamon rolls and blueberry pie—anchor a menu of hearty, reliably excellent dishes. Friendly, attentive staff, local regulars, live piano and retro Alaska memorabilia create a cozy ambiance. Expect long waits, limited parking, drive‑thru and outdoor options; vegan choices are sparse and hours are limited.
The dining room is filled with even more interesting artifacts to admire while you wait for your food. We both ordered the biscuits and gravy— I got the full order, and she ordered a half—but neither of us could finish the generous portions. The biscuits were homemade, country-style, and incredibly fresh, while the sausage gravy had the perfect consistency and was loaded with sausage chunks. The staff were enthusiastic and attentive, always keeping our cups filled and ensuring our needs were met. It's a small spot, but the service is excellent and comes with a smile. I think we’ve found our new go-to place for weekend breakfasts!
We visit this place almost every weekend. It’s drive-thru only, but it’s definitely worth it. The biscuits and gravy are amazing, and their cinnamon rolls are the best I’ve ever had!
The food is excellent, but the staff is quite occupied, making it difficult to request refills or anything else you may need.
Now, onto the food. It's consistently good every year I've been coming here. My go-to order has always been the little dippers with a side of bacon and a glass of orange juice. It's definitely the best item on the menu, hands down. The only downside is the limited vegan options; one of my friends ended up just sipping his orange juice the whole time. As for the ambiance, it's styled from the 1960s to the 1980s—so cozy and nostalgic in a way that's just charming. The reason I gave it four stars is that it’s not open right now. That’s disappointing, especially since it’s due to staff shortages. It's sad to see my favorite cafe closed.
Their signature dish is biscuits and gravy, but naturally, I decided not to order it since I'm not a fan of that dish in general. I love biscuits and I enjoy gravy, but when it comes to eating biscuits with a fork and knife as if they were a mini steak—I just can’t get into it. I still wanted to try the gravy, so I opted for Trig’s Special, which is a delicious reindeer sausage and veggie hash topped with gravy. I can certainly vouch for it, as well as the gravy—it was fantastic. The coffee was excellent too, and the service was both prompt and friendly.
