Was Roberta Smith at Umi a mag?
This is a lovely old world Italian restaurant that reminds of another time. It was a snowy day and the restaurant wasn't crowded for lunch, but the food was great. The bread was fresh and delicious. The homemade minestrone was light and fragrant. The shrimp were excellent. It was my girlfriend's birthday, and our waiter brought a delicious dessert with a message in chocolate on his own initiative. We will come back i... View all feedback.
What Erling Bartell dislikes about Umi:
3rd time at Umi. For Japanese and Sushi in the area, Umi is the best option. It's modern, clean, food and service are good. Some of the prices are high especially for the area beef teriyaki for some reason at $19 is quite high. Tell me it's grass fed and pasture raised, then we're in business. Some of the boxes could probably be shared by 2 so those would be a good value, as are the soups. Sushi is decent though not the best and some of the rolls have just too many frills (the only lobster option is smothered by 3 types of fruit. Mochi ice cream had freezer burn. It is my firm belief that if you can't send your best out of the kitchen, you apologize and tell the customer that it's not available. Don't serve it!.
Let me start by saying I normally don't go to sushi places rated below 4 stars just because there are so many sushi restaurants that it's not worth going to
Excellent sushi for a reasonable price!! Rolls tasted fresh and were so good! We tried the California, spicy scallop, spicy tuna and the picante.
I haven't been back in a few years. I wanted a comfortable place to spend an evening with friends. Reminds of Via Veneto ... and it didn't disappoint! Cool, comfortable and the food was wonderful! We will come back!
