Salonica Restaurant in Hyde Park offers a vibrant atmosphere and a blend of Greek and American comfort food that delights many patrons. While some diners praise the warm service and delicious dishes like gyros and freshly squeezed orange juice, others recount frustrating experiences with inattentive staff and lackluster food quality. Complaints about rude service and failure to accommodate simple requests tarnish its reputation for some. Nevertheless, the charm of this family-owned establishment keeps it thriving since 1979, attracting a diverse crowd with its rustic diner vibe and daily specials.
A charming restaurant with a wonderful selection of dishes, including some Greek options, all at reasonable prices. The staff was exceptionally friendly, making me feel right at home. I got great value for my money, especially enjoying the Salonica burger after a long stroll in the area. If you’re a book-loving tourist like me, I highly recommend checking out the nearby bookstore (Powell) either before or after indulging in a satisfying meal at Salonica.
As a Japanese person, I found that while the presentation might not be the most appealing, the flavors are delightful. The portion sizes are generous, yet even someone from Japan can finish a plate. Although it's a Greek dish, it surprisingly caters well to Japanese tastes.
The atmosphere is pleasant, the prices are affordable, and the location is conveniently walkable.
