Feedback
Nestled in the heart of the city, Cocoro offers a tempting array of authentic Japanese cuisine that captivates diners. With hearty noodle soups and delectable sushi, the menu caters to both traditionalists and newcomers alike. Patrons rave about the generous portions and the delightful flavors, particularly the Unaju and the creamy Uni. However, many have noted inconsistencies in service, ranging from long wait times to misplaced orders, which can dampen an otherwise enjoyable experience. Despite this, the restaurant's inviting ambiance and dedicated culinary approach make it a worthy destination for anyone craving genuine Japanese comfort food.
Sukiyaki is awesome. The order (for 2 people) also come with rice and green tea for dessert. I recommend also getting the egg (extra) to have with the sukiyaki. Reservations recommended via phone, as the restaurant was quickly full after opening. Highly recommend!
When Google is needed to understand the menu, it usually means authentic Japanese cuisine will be served. So is Cocoro. To prove my point, just check out the rice quality: very good balance of texture, stickiness and oiliness. Edited: visited a couple more times and tried other dishes. Highly recommend the Grilled Saury Fish
Love this place! The lady was super nice and had great recommendation for the drinks, the portions are generous. We spent around $60 each person. I love that they’re not fusion
This dining experience was one of the worst I've had in a long time. Despite having a reservation and few other patrons in the restaurant, it took 20 minutes for us to be acknowledged for our dinner order. The wait staff seemed to be standing around, with the male waiter frequently talking to the female waiter while waving his hands. This behavior was odd and distracting. He also stopped by our table multiple times, rambling on about the menu without providing any real information. The grilled eggplant we ordered was poorly prepared and unappetizing. It may have been the worst dish I've ever been served in a Chicago restaurant. When the male waiter asked for feedback, I expressed my disappointment, to which he simply shrugged and agreed. The sushi was passable, but overall, the wait staff was slow and unhelpful. The restaurant lacked ambiance, using greeting cards to cover up wall cracks. I will not be returning.
I am half Japanese and half Mexican, visiting Chicago for the first time and craving Udon (Japanese noodle soup). It can be hard to find outside of traditional Japanese restaurants, but Cocoro is exactly that - a small, clean, and wonderful spot for Japanese cuisine. Whether you need something quick to go or are looking for a special dinner, Cocoro is the best choice!
