Stanwix Chippy, once a cherished local favorite, faces challenges from new competition and past setbacks, including a recent fire and the impacts of COVID-19 and Brexit. While some patrons recall pleasant service and commendable food quality, recent reviews reveal a growing discontent with the menu and overall dining experience. Comparisons to nearby establishments like Fontana and The Fryery suggest a decline in standards. Good quality food, and a large menu with something for everyone. During the short waiting to make food we were able to have a nice conversation with those who work there. Very recommended View all feedback.
What User dislikes about The Stanwix Chippy:
After a fire, in premises above, water used to put it out, ran into premises below with Stanwix Chippy being one of them (other businesses, below, are back). Coupled with COVID and Brexit causing increases in prices and a new chippy chain just along the way definitely not as good all seemed to have finally had it’s toll and seems no more. The food at the only chip shop in Stanwix is disappointing. It's surprising that it has stayed in business for so long. I would prefer to drive to the other side of town rather than eat here. The service is always pleasant, but the food doesn't compare to the competition. With The Fryery set to open just 200 yards down the road, this place is likely to close soon. It doesn't meet the standards of other chip shops in the area like Fontana, Renuccis, and Mamas.
We stopped at this restaurant on our way back from Stornoway to our overnight camper spot and had an amazing haddock meal. It was delicious! If you're looking for good fish and chips, make sure you don't skip this place.
While traveling from the Ferry in Cairnryan to Sheffield, we stumbled upon this restaurant and had the best fish and chips I've had in years. If we ever find ourselves in Carlisle again, we will definitely be returning.
We had a Campervan stopover planned in Rickerby Park, Carlisle and passed the chippy in the way in. When we arrived at the park it was busy as local football matches were just finishing so we went for fish n chips. Lovely staff, very chatty and the best fish n chips I’ve had for years. Really beautifully cooked chunky cod and proper chips. Took them back to the now empty park and ate every last bit. Just what we needed. A top chippy
A village chippy full of village idiots. I shan't be returning. If the cholesterol doesn't kill you the stupidity will.
