This might not be the best spot on the strip full of restaurants overlooking the Cancale waterfront, but the food is solid and service is good. I was desperate to find a place to have a Christmas Day meal of seafood and thought perhaps Cancale might have something open. I found La Mere Champlain open and super busy, but they were kind enough to find me a table just for one...person. I was a bit in the middle of things and I did have a companion of sorts, the french bull dog that eyed everything I ate through the whole meal. I started with a shell fish platter that was excellent! I ordered the Bar Filet not knowing it was fish I was not familiar with the term)..Sadly, I could not eat it as it was too fishy for me. I am particular with fish so I blame myself only. I am sure anyone else would have loved it including my short friend)...the dessert was very good. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. I would go back! I was so happy they were open...Thank you Mere Champlain.

This restaurant is worthwhile visiting. Honest and good cuisine. Prices are good. Mussels were extremely fresh and wonderfully tasty. My daughter had cod. Wonderful dish. The view you enjoy at the window is wonderful. In one sentence, good prices, good cuisine, as a tourist we...were treated like royalty.
The best location to enjoy the tourist area and a stone's throw from the oyster market, warm welcome and attentive service. Very good buffet breakfast. The restaurant with its seafood menu is highly recommended, with its ideal location facing the sea. However, be sure to book a room with a sea-view terrace, which is undoubtedly better than one at the back without a balcony or terrace and rooftop views.
