The Compasses at Pattiswick is a charming country pub located in a pair of beautifully renovated farm workers cottages in the Century. Despite mixed reviews, this restaurant offers good food and service in a lovely setting. While some meals were disappointing, others were flavorful and satisfying. Delayed service and minor mishaps were noted, but overall the staff was polite and accommodating. The atmosphere is inviting, and the menu offers a variety of options. The food at this restaurant was very good and flavorful, but we were disappointed that on New Year's Day they had run out of beers. Even when we tried to order a festive cocktail, we were told that they were missing a key ingredient and couldn't make it. This put a damper on our celebration of our parents' Diamond Anniversary. Despite this, the wait staff was very polite and helpful.
Food could have been warmer, cold plates, belly of pork portion very small, and no crackling! Yet menu said with crackling, leeks not trimmed properly coarse outer leaves on plate. Service a little slow, no atmosphere.
We booked for 2.15 but did not get to our table for over 45mins! Hi Guys was the repeated greeting for one Lady 50+ , another 60+ and myself at 65. One lady was ignored when ordering a drink. VERY DISAPPOINTING, WE WILL NOT RETURN.
Although the belly of pork was a bit dry to our taste, the fish and the meat platter was good. This is a good place to catch up with friends over lunch, and there were excellent direction signs from the A 120.
We have been many times and never disappointed. Food... a good varied menu. Service is excellent. Although busy does not feel crowded and not feel that you are overlooked by other tables. Good for families.
