Don't give up if you see a quiet bar walking in carrer Ivorra, it's a very friendly bar restaurant where you can eat some deliciuos dishes like Galizian octopus or pembrot de Padrò (more or less spicy depending on the season or simply drinkin a beer while watching a football match (it's not so quiet in this case! . If you want some special dish not in the English language menu talk with Nacho, the manager, he's very kind and patient....even when you ask for a coffee during a critical Liga football match!
We had been searching for a bar to grab a much needed beer and glass of wine when we found this little place down a side street . The decor was rustic and the wall art a bit racy if you're of a certain age but we loved it. It also offered various entertainment events, as listed on the wall boards. Clearly in favour of providing traditional and local cuisine, the choices were good value as you could order a tapa or a full plate. The black pudding with rice looked and smelled wonderful, the croquettes were homemade and the old cheese fragrance wafted over us and it begged to be ordered too. The wine the house red was a delicious Rioja and the beer was good. We ordered coffees and brandies and they were both full of what you really wanted in a digestif. The waitress was welcoming and full of fun. The clientele ranged from students to senior folk and everyone looked very comfortable. We would definitely go back again.
I am a regular of Gerbard: it is the right place to meet friends from the neighborhood, but it is also fantastic to people who want to know the real Sarriá. Great food, great music (when there are concerts) and a limitless kindness. Thanks Mar!
I must disclose up front that my wife and I have been regulars of this small restaurant for years. In fact in the last 30+ years we have tried every single option in Sarrià. Many of these were actually very good but for one reason or another they were gone or have switched hands. The Gerbard since several years ago has become our first choice either for lunch or dinner in the neighborhood. Their weekday lunch menu is probably the best option in Sarrià both regarding price and its quality (it's like eating at home). Dinner is tapas style being the Octopus our favourite. Place is a bit small so the drawback at lunch time is that it is barely impossible to get a table if you don't get there early. At dinner, though, it is possible to make reservations. That is completely mandatory if you plan to go there when FC Barcelona plays. When there's a match, the restaurant gets filled with fans cheering for Barça. The clientele even stand up when there's a player's substitution! Because the place is a bit small, this is not your best option if you are looking for privacy. On the contrary, sometimes, all clients end sharing a conversation with Nacho and Mar, the owners, in a very friendly atmosphere. So overall, if you want to live a real local Sarrià experience give it a try!
