This is my third visit. This time I stopped by with a discount ticket from the Kyushu 88 Hot Springs Tour. I paid 300 yen for the bath and received a towel. The cats here are very relaxed. The water at Nagayu Onsen is incredibly rich in source spring everywhere you go. Shampoo and body soap are to be used in the designated shower room. It's best to think of this place as for bathing only. You need to bring your own shampoo and body soap. Shaving here might be difficult. The changing room is small, and on holidays, the outdoor carbonated spring is always crowded. It might be better to visit on weekdays if you want a relaxing experience. Since this is a popular hot spring, if you really want to soak in carbonated water that clings to your body, it may be better to try other hot springs like Shichirita Onsen or Megumichaya.
We visited around 5:30 pm. Family baths cannot be reserved. It cost ¥2000 for one hour and we were able to use it immediately without any wait. We paid at the front desk and were then shown to our bath. Towels and bath towels were available for purchase or rental. There were two baths, one at 42℃ and one at 32℃. The 32℃ bath had a noticeable amount of carbonation. Even though it was not cold, we occasionally wanted to warm up in the 42℃ bath. The carbonation immediately clung to our skin upon entering the bath, and even when we tried to shake it off, it would quickly come back. The amount of carbonation was impressive, equivalent to 12 times that of a certain bath product called Babu. While our circulation improved and our shoulders felt better, we did notice a lot of floating particles in the water. You can actually drink the carbonated water, and depending on the taste, it can indicate a deficiency in certain minerals such as calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium, or zinc. A sweet and tasty taste indicates a good balance of minerals. Personally, I seemed to be lacking in calcium while my wife was lacking in iron.
