Buffet & Bar Sunnegga - Zermatt

Had a lovely run around the 5 lakes with the family. Had a drink at the buffet bar Sunegga but treated terribly by the cashier Rosa. She surely spoiled a special day buy trying her best to make me feel like an idiot. Had nasty remarks about me making a latte in the wrong cup and my card not working immediately. My 7th time in Zermatt and never been treated like this.

We had a mixed experience here. Yes, we did feel sick after having the Rosti and I am surprised to read that other reviewers also had the same experience. Unfortunately I didn't read the reviews beforehand or else I might have decided otherwise. Yes, the place does appear expensive when compared to the ambience and the food. Some of the staff were rigid for sure and this was a bit disturbing, however, there were others who were warm. I would suggest this as a stopover for a quick drink and nothing more. Still, the place was teeming with guests given its great location.

I've been living and working in Zermatt for the past 4 years. I know the restaurant scene just as good as I know the skiing slopes. In short- I'm an insider who knows this town inside out, and who is used to the inflated prices that make Zermatt more expensive than other destinations. But this place is just shameful. About a month ago I had an overpriced portion of nuggets with fries which left me with a stomach ache. I promised myself never to buy anything here again, but I recently had to buy some water on a very mild day. I didn't expect to pay cheap for the bottle, but the 6 Swiss Francs they charged me for a small plastic battle of water was a complete rip-off. 20+ francs for a small portion of overly oily chicken nuggets (disgusting) is also dishonest. As I work with the public, in the touristic sector, I'll make sure that every person who asks for advice on where to dine when on the slopes will stay away from this place. Avoid it.

We had arranged to meet there with others for lunch and didn't know the area. This place serves shamefully poor food at high prices. Both me and my son had a belly ache after eating the pale grease dripping rösti and sausage with fries. I just don't get why some have no shame and loose their pride, when the guests come for the view. Look at a place like Restaurant Fluhalp. Same mountain. Just a bit off the beaten track and like being on a different planet. Great food, smiling staff. Not stuck in the 90'ies when it comes to food and interior design like Buffet Bar Sunnegga. It really is shameful that a resort like Zermatt is exploited by restaurants like this. Do NOT go there is you can avoid it.

Really bad experience, the owners are extremely rude, and it’s a shame how they treat you considering the very high prices of this restaurant. They have no idea how to behave with the people who bring food to their tables. It’s a pity to have such a bad place in a beautiful resort like Zermatt. Please don’t make the mistake of stopping here for lunch!
