Whether you walk down from Gornergrat, or train up from Zermatt, make this your lunchtime destination at Riffelalp. Run by Tanja and Dave, their warm hospitality is matched by their excellent food. We chose the appetising daily specials as we sheltered in their quaint, cosy, upstairs room from a sudden, fierce, Alpine storm.Dave, an exuberant Irishman but longtime resident in Zermatt, tours the tables and might just... A couple of weeks ago we were hiking in the alps, and things hadn't been going well. We ditched the hike and took the tram up to Riffelalp to see the Matterhorn and happened upon this place by accident. It totally changed our day! The view was magnificent, Dave was really nice and friendly, the coffee was good--but best of all was the strudel! Can't say enough about the strudel. Dave then explained how we could hike down to Zermatt and our day was saved. When we talk about that day, we describe it as, before the strudel and after the strudel! This place was a little pricey for us so we didn't order anything else, but I can't say enough about the strudel!
I had Hamburger and chips there, it was very delicious!! Especially homemade chips was really good. And also they have nice coffee and dessert too. I want to come back as much as I can to try all menu!Service was also good and friendly, and you have a a nice view.
Very good mountain restaurant. the beef burger with delicious pommes frites is highly recommended. the terasse has recently been renewed and enlarged and offers a fantastic view of the Matterhorn. The host tanja and dave are very friendly and very much concerned about the pleasure of their guests. also our dog was welcome and immediately got water.
We were in disguised for 4 days on the occasion of the Zermatt Marathon and ate in alphitta on all days. the food was every time for both the children (10 and 7) and for us adult from the finest - varied, delicious and for cervical conditions even cheap! The service was also great, unbeatable but was and is the warmth of the two owners tanja and dave as well as their dog marley, who have always made our visits an incomparable refreshing experience. b. a spaghetti dress without demand a spoon and a shell for the empty muscheln in muschel dishes without demand. this is not a matter of course in many restaurants. For participants in the Zermatt Marathon, the restaurant is a station below the destination on the riffelberg also an ideal base camp!To sum up: we would come back at any time and can recommend the restaurant without restriction - at least 6 stars!
We stayed twice in the alphitta during our holidays. tanja and dave were both very friendly and good hosts. Unfortunately, the selection of the food was not quite on season high for that the restaurant was already open long before others tried. the portions are also appropriate for hungry migrating. the only negative are the prices for it, as said, the portions are at least ok. in fact, it must be said here that the prices move in distort to very high level and in most places the portions are rather micky. the self-made hamburger with fresh pumice frites and the rösti (fresh potatoes) with bratwurst on wobble sauce were very delicious. also on the afternoon at 16:00 o'clock still first-class food. bravo the kitchen brigade that you can easily eat even with much love and dedication.
