Location on googlemaps, happycow and tripadvisor is wrong. Search googlemaps for 萬和樓 (you can find the ‘local’ name on tripadvisor). Or search for Emperor Guan’s shrine in googlemaps and the restaurant is opposite the end of the gate and has a yellow sign and a sign saying vegetarian hand written in the door. More vegan options than meat options it seemed but enough to keep both veggie vegan and meat eater happy.... View all feedback.
What Wellington Quintana doesn't like about Banwarou Mimika:
I wasn't confident in the food I was advised was vegan. The meal was sloppy and tasted as if it had been sitting in a pot for 3 days waiting to be heated. The owner was friendly but that was the only positive. The place was far from appetising. Later in the evening I felt incredibly ill and feel as though it was because of the food I ate here. This place a little old, but has a few vegan options (less than usual, although due to covid.) the good was delicious, but quite oily. I thought it was expensive for what I got.
Menu says vegetarian, but actually is vegan. I ordered daikon mochi, bifun, mapodofu and knödel
Banwarou is a little beaten restaurant in yokohama chinatown, which has written vegetarian at its doorstep. it was a warm day, so the inside of the restaurant was relatiw warm. I had expected a great service, but unfortunately it wasn't my lucky day. I ordered something safe for lunch this day; mapo tofu, reis and daikon mochi, as all others (three other tables) ordered in the restaurant. Unfortunately I only have the maple tofu and a bowl of rice. I thought the owner/server would bring the daikon mochi after I had finished my main meal. nevertheless, after the conclusion of the mapo tofu and wait for 10 minutes that daikon mochi never arrives. what is even more depressing is that I can see that other tables get their daikon mochi after they have ordered one. the mapo tofu, about which I had, was in order to write nothing. it is not spicy or has a deep of taste from the doubanjiang, but it fits well with the white rice. the portion size was also correct for lunch. since I have other things to do (and feel half full) I asked the older man who I suspect was the owner to have the daikon mochi as excerpt. he was confused until I pointed out that there was only half a dish of rice and an almost empty plate of mapo tofu. he then realized that he never gave me the mochi and asked me to wait, but I gave up since I felt like I had been locked out since the beginning. as others have said, it is better to go to Koukien; at least they have the order right, and the owner/server did not scream constantly on the cook. visited 3. november 2021
味がしっかりして、私は好記園より好きです! Very tasty. I prefer this restaurant than ko-ki en.
Went there because Koukien was closed. Tried the mapo tofu, it was okay. On the spicy side for those who like spicy. It was quite oily. The owner was friendly and spoke English. They have quite a few vegetarian dishes but they are on the pricy side. Overall I don’t think this is the best vegan option in Yokohama despite what the other reviews say. I definitely rate Koukien higher.
