A picture is worth a 1000 words. Lincoln has NOOOO clue what it has in Mary Ellen?s! This is such great food, full of flavor and character. We tried it for the first time tonight and holy cow! The catfish is u lick any you will find in Lincoln. The ribs were excellent and the hot link was hot in all the right ways and the collard greens made me want a gallon more. What User doesn't like about Mary Ellen's:
Food took quite awhile (about 25 minutes) Mac and cheese was basically just noodles (was hoping for creamy cheese and was highly disappointed) Smothered potatoes were decent (but a little on the greasy side) Fried chicken was decent (the breading was average. My opinion?go across the street to Famous Dave?s. View all feedback.
We tried the Cajun Honey Wings, Hot Buttered Wings, Brussels Sprouts and Mac N Cheese. The Cajun Honey Wings are amazing! Brussels Sprouts had a nice roasted sweet flavor and the Hot Buttered Wings are a good spice level. We will definitely be back for more!
First of all, this restaurant knows how to make the meats for the most part. Ribs (my fave), brisket, catfish, pulled pork, and fried chicken are great. I?ve been disappointed with their chicken wings though. Last two times have been like eating wings made out of rubber bands, they snap, not in a good way. To me, the side dishes are 50/50. Their sides interchange daily so you never know what?s actually available until you get there. Online order say one thing, actual ordering in person says another. Fries and Mac n cheese are good, hard to mess up. But the Brussels sprouts were terrible, they need to advertise that they have pecans in them and they are actually very chewy and tough as hell. I?m also allergic to pecans so the pecans was a nice surprise. I will stay neutral on the baked beans because while I think they are way over the top flavor/ingredients wise, I can see why people like them. The collard greens though.. I haven?t liked any collard greens before but I could devour Mary Ellen?s collard greens every day, they are GREAT. The staff is super friendly and accommodating, the meats are great, but need to solidify the sides that they are good at and quit changing them around.
First time there, ordered buttery wings w/fries slaw. Wings were greasy, burnt, extremely salty, and tasted old. Slaw swimming in sweet sauce, wasn't bad, fries had little flavor to them. Was informed that menu rotates and this dish had me rotating to my bathroom a few times during the night. Won't be back.

Everything was delicious, but I tend to judge places off of their coleslaw which so many places can't do well. Hands down, best coleslaw I've ever had came from Mary Ellen's.
