Four of us went to this pub for a drink. It was really busy and there were no tables available, but the friendly staff managed to seat us. We all enjoyed a delicious roast dinner, and the cherry-blackwell cheesecake was out of this world. The pub had a great selection of beer and we will definitely be returning. See you soon. I have been to this pub several times as it is an old establishment with great staff and great beer. However, when four of us dined there yesterday evening and ordered tapas, we were not impressed. The homemade onion rings seemed undercooked and oily. The salt and pepper chicken skewers were mediocre, as was the chorizo. The ribs were decent, but lacked sufficient seasoning. We had luck, an esstic in the mags yesterday it was highly booked, so would advise before booking, especially for more than two people. the staff is a beautiful beer/wine excellent and the brat was delicious. great to see the pub. well visited.
Friendly and attentive staff. Dog friendly with nice beer garden. Characterful pub in nice riverside location and excellent food.
Sunday Lunch was truly awful, we have been a couple of times to the pilot boat and thought we would try here instead. Big mistake, Pilot boat is far better .
Here good Friday, meeting a bunch of friends for a sesh, and a catch up. Can't call myself a regular, first time back in about 40 years : It's a lovely old place dating back to the mid 18th century. There's a nice bar on...entry, and a number of rooms off this. There's also a lovely beer garden, with a nice view over a section of the river. It's a warm, friendly place, the service was good throughout, and they do a great selection of ales. There's also food, general pub fair I believe, but non of us ate so I can't speak to their grub. Though the dishes we saw passing us did look very nice. It's a nice, family friendly place, and was pretty busy during our stay. We drank in the garden till it got dark, then moved inside. We had a really good day, and If you're in the area I'd highly recommend dropping in.
Called in for a pint whilst walking along the shores around New Brighton on a windy day. The welcome was warm, the beer excellent and a very good sandwich, just what the doctor ordered!
