Local restaurant serving fine Mexican cuisine in an up-scale setting. We went for dinner and ordered two different halibut entrees. Both were fresh, delicious and creative in their own right. The staff was friendly and attentive befitting of a restaurant of this caliber. View all feedback.
What Dessie Wisozk doesn't like about La Playa Azul:
Honestly, I only go here because my better half insists on doing dinners here with her friends. And quite frankly, I'm never really happy anywhere we go! But this place is ehhhh..... I mean they served a tostada salad on iceberg lettuce for God's sake (just no, and WHY I WILL SAY THOUGH, I LIKE THEIR STAFF BETTER THAN THEIR FOOD. And that rarely is ever the case! Eat and service are always great, but pay attention to the margaritas. I'm a lightweight, but after a margarita lunch I have to go to the city for an hour before I can go home.
I have been here for years and have enjoyed the experience most. since the pandemic I have weakened because of health that make it too risky, cannot go personally, but I have ordered from them regularly to support local restaurants, although it is not cheap to order by one of the delivery services. at the beginning, the food kept, although always expensive, up to personal standards. that has changed until the last time, I actually feel as if I was deliberately insulted. so they apply their garnel taco: grilled Mexican white wild garnel tacos served with roasted tomato jalapeño salsa, crema roja, pico de gallo and finely crushed cauliflower spices with fresh lime juice and avocado slice I don't like heat or rohe tweak, so I asked them to keep the salsa and pico. in person and in the past, I have exactly what I ordered, including the crema, the cauliflower, the avocado, the limette and perfectly cooked garnel. the last two times it came without the crema, so it was dry, but I thought, hey, everyone can have a bad day, or they just forgot this one thing. the picture shows what I have this time. 3 overdrilled, dry garnels on a tortilla. for $9.75 plus control and fees. no restaurant that cares for his food would ever send such a thing out of his kitchen! even if it is a delivery service for someone who cannot complain. it is uprightly disrespectful for its customers. they may not know that I am a long-term customer who has supported them for the last 20 years, but that should not be important. I also ordered the krabbenquesadilla and for the third time it had peeled in it. also here cost this $19 and it is not a pleasant dining room experience to stop mid-snail and try to spit out shell pieces. they also added paprika from an unknown background, although it is not again in the description from their own menu. I get the impression that because it is the delivery and so, there are no consequences to serve bad food (and not what promises its own menu), they simply don't care. I give them two stars just because the vegetable burrito was as ordered and good. after these last bad experiences and above all this last sincere insult where I literally felt like I had been robbed, it will probably be a long time before I order from this restaurant again. there are many Mexican restaurants in the city and undoubtedly there is one out there that does not insult its customers and delivers what its menu promises.
We sat outside on a table with our 8 family members. the personal was attentive and offers excellent service. we had a few appetizers along with the complementary chips and awesome salsa! all were great. the menu had a nice variety. I had the tacos de pescado (hallibut fish tacos) that were fresh, tasty and excellent. each other tried something different and all enjoyed their dinner. the area heating was available and after demand they turned to cool the evening. one of our family members had a birthday, so they brought a small flan cake and sang the happy birthday song. all right, a really nice dinner. oh, I almost forgot, I have united mileageplus meal bonus for using my united brand credit card. a pleasant surprise and bonus! I'll be right back.
One of my top 2 favorite Mexican spots in sb. tasteful, affordable, friendly. they get a table on the veranda and they will feel that they are in someone's house.
