What GrandTour617545 doesn't like about Smithey's Cafe:
Lunch was mostly portions of white rice with small bowl of black beans that were not seasoned . Ordered the Palomilla steak that seemed to be two pieces of thin cut, small, flavor less beef topped with some fried onions. Wife had the chicken chicken fajita salad, mostly white rice/black beans in the bottom of the bowl with a small portion of meat and peppers. Food was average at best. Bigger problem was the server so... View all feedback.

Smithey's Restaurant in West Jefferson is a great place to eat. You can order off of the menu or eat the buffet. It's a friendly, hometown, home cooking place for breakfast and lunch. I hope they will start serving supper before long, at least a few nights a week.
My friend told me about this place a couple years ago. I don’t know why I haven’t tried it till now. I ordered a Cuban sandwich and some plantains. The Cuban was phenomenal. The plantains were fabulous. Tony was awesome as well. I will definitely be ordering from here more often.
We were passing through and thought we would stop at this little hole in the wall that was recommended by Trip Advisor. The place was packed and people still were lining up to get in. Order at the counter and they bring it out. Paper plates and cups. No, its not fine a dining experience, but that’s probably how they can pass those savings along to the customers. Good prices and some AMAZING food!!!! Patacon Plantains are off the chain! 100% recommend if your in the area!
Recently we were craving Cuban food and stopped in to Havana Café. The proprietor of the establishment is a very very gracious individual and very concerned of keeping the customer happy. Growing up on Cuban food I know how to cook taught by Cuban Mom. We ordered a chicken Milanese. What was served was a probably day old serving with “rubbery” Plantain maduro which obviously has been in the refrigerator and microwave. Come on folks not everybody that goes to restaurants not know how to cook. Cuban food in the Cuban culture like their food piping hot steaming as it is served on your table. This means soup Has to be steaming hot and not served in a Tupperware cup. The rice and beans have to be steaming when served on your table not Luke warm or cold. The Cuban sandwich was a fiasco there was only pork in the center of the bread (and not up to the edge of the bread-bad) no cheese, one slice ham, the bread which wasn’t necessarily authentic Cuban bread but they get a pass on this because they don’t have a bakery. Cuban sandwich does not look like the Cuban sandwich on the website or menu. It is not the owner but the kitchen cook who does not know better. The sliced chicken breast was approximately 1 milimeter breaded. The owner was embarassed and cooked a fresh chicken Milanese that was superb. Meat was about 12x times thicker than original plate. When a restaurant or café scrimps or Goes cheap on the proportions it does nothing For the bottom line because the saved proportions usually get thrown out anyway. It’s better to provide a very healthy proportion and considerate it advertising. In this case, closer supervision of each and every plate that goes to a table should be scrutinized by the owner to make sure re-heated or re-used food is not served on an unsuspecting innocent customer. 2 stars.
