What Morgan Taylor doesn't like about Al's Upstairs Italian:
Called to make a reservation. The lady interrogated me about if the members of my party were adults or not and what exact ages they are. I’ve never in my life been asked what ages my party are. If I say x adults and x children, that is what it is. Ages of them should not matter. She had an attitude and basically insinuated that I shouldn’t bring children. Refused to make a reservation for me. Hopefully, a better rest... View all feedback.
I seriously cannot rant and rave about this place enough after our dining experience here! It was the absolutely PERFECT place for a date night. There was a very intimate romantic vibe about it when we sat down at our table by the window. The view was very nice the food was fantastic! We started our date with a calamari appetizer, as they also brought out some complimentary fresh bread to the table with olive oil to dip. Then, my husband ordered the Pasta Alla Al I ordered their special of the evening as my meal, the Shrimp and Scallop Spinach Ravioli. I had a glass of wine with my meal and my husband had a glass of bourbon with his. All in all, we spent a little over $100 for the whole meal and it was worth every penny! Our server, Alex, was amazing! He gave us the most excellent service, a true 5 star experience. We would have definitely had dessert if we weren't so stuffed with all the delicious food we had just eaten. They had creme brulee, key lime pie, tiramisu cheesecake, ALL of which we love! This seriously my new favorite date night spot in West Columbia! I will always highly recommend this place to people and will definitely plan on coming back again.
Great food. Server was very knowledgeable!! I loved the atmosphere! As soon as we walked in we were hit in the face with the smell of the best smelling food ever! View was awesome! Loved it here!!
My bf and I were here for the first time for the last Friday of 2022. The vibe was romantic and intimate. We got a seat by the window and enjoyed the city lights throughout our meal. Out waiter was polite, charming, and funny. Attentive without being annoying and overbearing. He truly was our culinary advocate and came through with all his recs. We got the lobster bisque to start, it was light and the puff pastry delicious- must try. Split between 2, it left plenty of space for the rest of the meal and a couple of drinks. Mains: My bf got the special, swordfish (I think) and risotto and I got the seafood manicotti. The risotto was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The portion size was large and very filling. We weren't able to finish and needed to take it home. The manicotti was heavy on the cheese, and really didn't take much to feel satisfied. Somehow, we had space for dessert. We were debating between the tiramisu and cheesecake. Our waiter told us both are excellent but the cheesecake is one of the best things he's ever eaten. I had my heart set on tiramisu going in and kept with the theme of Italian, so we decided to go with that. Our waiter realllly wanted us to experience that cheesecake. He clearly finagled something because they comped us the cheesecake and we got to try both! It was delightful and really tasted like somebody's grandma made it just for us. Can't go wrong with either dessert. Both are super filling and of course we had to get boxes for those too. All in all, we had a great night with good food, string drinks, and were stuffed to the brim. Looking forward to my next time!
Als upstairs has been one of the best locations for pasta that I have had in a very long time. The pasta Alla Al was amazing and the steak additions were also immaculate. Great location overlooking downtown Columbia with a quiet ambience. Highly recommend!
Our first time at Al's Upstairs. I made reservations, but next time, I would request a window seat to enjoy the sunset reflection of Columbia and the river. The food was very good and filling. Excellent and attentive servers. We will revisit.
