Guests praise the lovely ambiance, friendly staff, and beautifully presented meals, although some noted consistency issues with portion sizes and quality, particularly with afternoon tea offerings. While the vegan selections are varied, some patrons felt improvements could be made, notably in freshness and portion sizes. Overall, this delightful café stands out for its picturesque location and dedicated service, making it a must-visit for both casual lunch-goers and those seeking a sweet treat.
We wanted a frie-up breakfast, as the beautiful photo seen above, but unfortunately they don't do any more fry ups of any sort. I had avo toast with salat leaves and tomats and a big pot tee, both very beautiful. the best piece of this caffe is the position next to the channel. I'd go back, but just for a cake. if they want a lush frey, they go to cote in the city yum!
We stopped for lunch while we drove through newbury. there were several vegan options on the menu, all were quite similar. eating was okay, it didn't taste bad, but the portions were very small and quite simple. there were not many vegan cakes available. there were some sitting in the inner but much more outside through the canal.
For the vegan afternoon in advance, my partner had an omni one. was told on the phone when booking that the scoone was actually frozen, so I could not choose a simple one. arrived the day and double tested mine was a vegan afternoon tee. looked down and was brought 2x victoria sponge discs and tee and coffee. I cried when these were vegan, one was taken away and some milk of the pasture was brought to go with the tee. the afternoon tee itself costs £23 per person in the rule (we have £20 overall as it is the last day of eating out to help) you get a big scones that was incredibly dry, more like a rock cake. vegan butter and jam, 3 tiny fingerandwiches and a fee cake and a small strawberry and saw. my bf had a few more cakes. the tee was delicious, I wish the skorone was fresh, but there is no way I would have paid £23 for it! I think it would have at least fresh skorn and vegan cream along with a real disc cake. the caffe also makes vegan sandwiches and a vegan klappjack. (which was not included with the tee) but they should really reduce their price of the vegan afternoon tea if not on par with the omni!
Visited a few months ago love this sweet caffe placed from the canal! vegan options available I had a delicious avocado on toast and made a takeaway of some vegan tasty (flapjacken were a hit).
Lovely location tea rooms with a good selection of options on the menu for vegans and veggies. Friendly staff, grade 2 listed building, excellent food. And accommodated is easily, even when I forgot to ask for dairy-free butter on my toast they swapped it without complaint. Highly recommended
