What Shelley Morey doesn't like about Mr Mikes Steakhousecasual:
My daughter had quesadillas, which she said was good but I has a cajun chicken salad. It tasted very good but I was sick after leaving the restaurant a couple of times. Not sure if it was the salad or the smell of lobster permeating the room. Smelled sickening. The food was not worth the money. one meal was served on a tray lined with paper, which shredded when you used a knife. Worst coleslaw I've ever tasted. The service was mediocre. One of our meals was unsatisfactory yet our server didn't notice a full meal set aside. Another server stepped up and fixed the problem. The music jumped from genre to genre. Find a theme. Any theme and stick to it. An abysmal dining experience.
I really wanted to like Mr. Mike's. There's not a lot of restaurants in Welland, and so when Mr. Mike's Casual Steakhouse opened, I couldn't wait to try it. The decor is modern and welcoming with a shelf of games like Jenga, Hungry Hungry Hippo and Connect Four they even have giant Jenga blocks for Kenya night. We sat in the bar area which they call The Lodge. There were plenty of TVs playing various sports games, but unfortunately, some TVs had these orb lights that hung right in front of the screen. The lights were so bright that they left bright spots on my retina, even when I looked away. I decided to try their own craft brew The Antler Brew, it was like drinking Richard's Red. We went for drinks with friends so we only ordered appetizers. The chicken quesadillas wasn't even crispy nor were they filled properly. I rather them not serve it with a side salad and put more chicken and contents in the quesadilla. The Hot Lobster Dunk made with Langostina lobster was a disappointment, yes it was cheesy, but I didn't taste the Langostina lobster (which is more shrimp than it is lobster) and there was way too much green onion. Appetizer shouldn't be hard to do and though our group ordered 4 appetizers, none stood out. I doubt I would go back to try their mains.
Nice to have a steakhouse named after me, particularly given what a large fan of steak I am. I am also Casual. They were accommodating to limiting the amount of carbs in my meal, which I appreciated. The side salad is hearty and very delicious, not just your typical iceberg and two carrots. The steak was good and cooked to temperature, but could have used more salt (if any) in the cooking process.
We went on Saturday and were quite pleased. It was nice to see that it was very busy , for a fairly new place. The food was good. I had the chicken teriyaki bowl and would have liked the rice to be more flavourful. The service was good considering how busy they were. I would recommend it and will go again.
Food was 45 minutes after we ordered coming out and cold when it was delivered. Would not recommend
