Went there with friends and 2 of us ordered the pickerel which was OK, I have had much better. It came with soup, which was too spicy for me. It also came with dill potatoes and cole slaw. The other had perogies and cabbage rolls and said they were good. View all feedback.
What Lynn Halvorson doesn't like about Kinniwabi Pines Restaurant:
This is the highest rated restaurant in the area which is why we went. The food was very good, which is the only reason I gave two stars. Unfortunately we were at the restaurant for over two hours waiting for our food. Our order was taken promptly, drinks and soup brought in good timing. Then we waited, and waited and waited. It was an hour between getting our appetizer and our dinner. By that time no one was very hu... View all feedback.
Wow! We were driving through to Thunder Bay, and wanted some dinnerI read the Yelp Reviews; but sadly no website with a menu.
Easily one of the best meals we had on our Lake Superior Circle tripI had the whitefishMy wife had the pickerel (i.e, walleye).
My spouse and I generally stop in Wawa on our annual trip to Thunder Bay, Sioux Lookout and / or Pickle Lake. It is about half way from our home in Orillia to the aforementioned municipalities, and a good place to stop for the night and refresh and recalibrate. The Kinniwabi Pines is run by a family from the Caribbean (Trinidad), and the food choices reflect that culinary heritage. The curry dishes are always good, but this time my wife and I tried something different, with her choosing the perogies and cabbage rolls and I going with the pan fried lake trout. Both choices were excellent. The perogies were soft and succulent, the cabbage rolls moist and tender, while the lake trout was perfectly cooked, with a light, crisp and delicate seasoning, accompanied by fresh steamed vegetables, also crisp and fresh. Overall, an excellent meal at a reasonable price. Unfortunately the bugs were so bad on the patio (that has an excellent view of the Michipicoten River) that we were forced to eat inside on a warm summer evening.
My husband and I came across this little gem while celebrating our 10th anniversary with a Lake Superior Full Circle drive in July, 2017.After walking in, we were taken aback with the gorgeous window and patio views along with the great interior decor. We had breakfast by one of the little windows that viewed the water and pines. The smell of fresh pine, fresh linen on table adorned with china cup of coffee on saucer (delivered elegantly on tray by waitress) and Sarah Brightman music playing softly in the background put me entirely in my element. I didn't want to leave. Husband had to catch up on work emails after breakfast and I lazily enjoyed my coffee and took it all in. What a slice of heaven this is!We ended up staying another night in town, next door so we could further explore the area and come back for dinner. The staff is wonderful! Enjoyed the maps and pics from Trinidad. Signed autograph and picture of Ted Nugent was pleasant surprise, too. If we ever get back to Wawa, we know where we are headed. Don't pass this one up!A big thank you to the owners and staff for a memory I will always treasure.
