No restaurant in the Washington DC area provides a more authentic French dining experience than La Chaumiere. The menu offers familiar French specialties such as steak and frites and rack of lamb, as well as less commonly found delights as choucrute garni, ris de veau and cassoulet. The decor is "pretty French farmhouse with rough-hewn wooden columns, a stone fireplace in the center of dining room, and old-fashioned... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about La Chaumiere:
three of us enjoyed dinner on a busy Tuesday this week during the winter restaurant week, and we are already planning our return trip. two of us have ordered the limited RW menu, one from the regular menu. we shared tasting our appetizers, main thing and desserts, so that thoughts are unanimous: excellent eating, the appetizing of cuddly butter with spinat, and baked woof soup. the mains contain trout with mangles, s... Our experience at La Chaumiere was exceptional. From the service, to the food, to the ambiance, to the amicability of the fellow customers, the dining experience was most memorable. I highly recommend the cheese soufflé and the venison medallions. We will definitely be returning to La Chaumiere in the near future.
The short ribs and Coquille St. Jacques were delicious. Our server was friendly and personable. Table was uncomfortable and crowded by the one next to us, but all the two-tops in the restaurant are like that. The Chardonnay by the glass is awful...tastes like hairspray. The creme brulee was good, but very sweet. Overall, much better experience than our visit last spring when we were visiting. Curious why there is no chicken dish on the menu...seems odd for a French restaurant. Also, it'd be nice if the cassoulet was available each evening, not just Thursdays. I've been to other French restaurants where it's available each night.
Really a lovely dinner. A waiter who was helpful and not intrusive in any way. Cozy surroundings, warm and attractive. Food was well prep’d, timely but not rushed. We loved it.
Chaumière offers reliably delicious food in a classy atmosphere. Great for pre show dinner.
Always great! Visit at least once every trip to DC.
