Overall, the restaurant received mixed reviews. Some customers were disappointed with the quality of the food, with complaints about freshness, spice levels, and portion sizes. However, others had positive experiences, praising dishes such as the vegetable momo, garlic nan, and braised short ribs. The service was generally considered good, although some issues were noted with table assignments and timing. The restaurant was also commended for accommodating pre-theater diners. Prices were noted to be on the higher side, but overall it seems that individual experiences varied greatly at this establishment.

Don't let the trendy appearance of this place intimidate you. The staff is incredibly friendly, the drinks are priced lower than the average for DC, and they're genuinely excellent. I typically lean towards beer rather than cocktails, but the inventive recipes here, crafted by a dedicated team, result in drinks that are truly remarkable. The food follows suit—it's simple yet expertly prepared, featuring delightful to... View all feedback.
What Jules dislikes about Hank's Oyster Bar:
I honestly don't know why I keep returning to this restaurant; perhaps it's time to move on. The food isn't bad, but the service is unbelievably poor—almost laughable. Throughout our dinner, we sat with empty wine glasses and had to send the busboy to locate our server. Even then, it took ages to get a drink, and when it finally came, the staff was unfriendly. To make matters worse, my $28 entree was served cold duri... View all feedback.
The menu offers both Indian and Nepalese food. We only tried the Nepalese cuisine and enjoyed the unique flavors on our sample plate. I will definitely come again.
I wouldn't recommend this restaurant at all. They call it Nepalese, but it's just a fancy name for Indian food that I love. There are many excellent Indian restaurants here, but this is not one of them. Firstly, there were no other customers when we got there. Two parties came in after us and we are looked after before us. We expressly told the waitress everything mild. When we ordered a birayani she forgot to tell us until we complained that it is always spicy. We started with an inedible lentil soup. It was cold and salty. We asked for hot tea and she said they had gone out that afternoon. Our chicken tikka was all sauce and very little chicken. We sent it back and told them to add more chicken. The shrimp dish was the same - all sauce and hardly any shrimp. The sauces over the rice were pleasant, but overpriced for how little you got. We enjoyed the starter of Mo MO and the Chana Masala. I love Mango Lassi, but they just poured it out of a 1 gallon container. It was probably pre-made in the supermarket. Don't go here when we have such a large and diverse Indian community with excellent restaurants across the region.
The food was good, not the best Nepalese food in the bay area but they get there. It's a new restaurant and they are doing very well.
We always love coming to Hank's when we visit DC. Outside patio is delightful, our waitress had an amazing knowledge of the menu and was able to provide many dairy free items for me to choose. Only complaint is the very rare salmon that was served whichapparently is how they prepare it. It's worth a mention I believe because my son tried but couldn't eat it so he brought it homerather than send it back. We will be back!
The unsung hero of the 17th st/Dupont Circle HH scene. This venue is enormous, with a sprawling upstairs bar and patio seating. When every other bougie HH spot in the area is packed in like sardines, you can always find a spot, some great cocktails andsome $2 HH oysters at Hank's.
