One of my favorite places for Ethiopian food in DC especially with low costs, good portion sizes, and incredible flavor. Recommend getting one of the combo plates for a good variety especially a veggie combo and a meat combo One purchases the dishes at the counter, pays the bill, and then can sit at one of the tables before a buzzer tells you when the food is ready. It is usually quite empty as most people do takeout... View all feedback.
Delicious! I ordered Uber Eats from here and food was tasty and fresh, even after traveling across town. While it was a bit pricey through Uber Eats, you get a TON of food that keeps well for next day leftovers. I ordered the Special Veggie Combo (6 options) for a large lunch/dinner for myself and there was enough food for leftover lunch the next day. If you get the food yourself (not delivery) the value is unbeatable. The only slight drawback is the kik alicha (yellow split peas) was very very mild and could use additional/stronger spices.Vegetarian options: Extensive vegetarian options
This is the best Ethiopian food I've had in the US. For reference I have eaten Ethiopian food in Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, St. Louis, Sioux Falls, DC (another restaurant), LA, and Seattle. This is the closest I've had to the Ethiopian food I ate in Ethiopia. It makes me feel like someone dropped me off in Debark or Axum. Really makes me remember my time in Ethiopia fondly. No wonder this place is called habesha. Prices are more reasonable and you can customize your beyaynetu easily which is rare at most Ethiopian places. Can't recommend enough!Vegetarian options: Ethiopian is fantastic for veggie and vegan options and authentic injera is gluten free. In the US some places use gluten based grains because teff is really expensive here so be sure to ask to be safe if you have a gluten allergy. I'm vegetarian and it's one of my go to cuisines always best to get the platter as you can try everything and it's the most authentic to be sharing a platter with others.
Best Ethiopian food in DC/ the US. Sublime! If you're an adventurous eater like me get the special kitfo, otherwise the Millenium Tibs are the best tibs I have ever had. Out of this world! Not to be missed. This place is also an Ethiopian grocery store, so a great spot for cooks as well.
This is a wonderful restaurant and small but well stocked Ethiopian market. I am a huge fan of their vegetarian/vegan sampler platter. There are a lot of vegetarian and vegan options available without needing to make special requests/alter the preparation which is great for those with dietary restrictions. In addition, they have gluten free injera for takeaway and with your meal. This isn’t a restaurant to go to for the IG aesthetic but the inside is spacious and clean. I usually order take out at the counter and hang out while it’s made. I enjoy perusing the Ethiopian grocery section during this time. Everyone at the store is friendly, and the food is ready quickly. The portions are generous for a very fair price.
I 've had many excellent experiences over the years. I often call in my order but have showed up stating I 'm on a break at work and have to get back quickly, what do you recommend? to excellent results. (The winner that day was the time-efficient and delicious 4 veggie combo).I really appreciate their later hours when getting healthful food on U Street later in the evening can be a struggle.Their meat can be fattier than the other Ethiopian restaurant I 've used but I prefer Habesha 's flavors and prices.I 've only ever gotten take-out and can 't comment on the dining room service. The take out area has a small storefront, cashier counter, casual tables and chairs, and view of the kitchen. The counter people are friendly and efficient. The vibe is transient but unhurried.Vegetarian options: There are many, very tasty vegetarian options.
