Sunrise is more of a in house pantry/canteen for Ajay Guest House , on whose rooftop it is located. I guess it is not by design but by the virtue of it being so hard to locate. Up a flight of stairs from Maharana Mahal Ghat , through a dark and dirty corridor , one reaches Ajay Guest House / Palace on the step. Then again some more steps up from in front of the reception you reach this elusive eatery . I happened to eat here because I was staying on premises at Ajay Guest House. Housed in a wire cage to protect visitors from the monkey menace , they also have an open area facing the mighty Ganges . The food served her , including North Indian and the so called continental and the obligatory chow mein :) , is defiantly no great shakes , tasting like any other road side eatery. I just once ordered a veg sandwich , which was a soggy toasty sandwich stuffed with Julians of cabbages and carrots , served very un appetisingly. Henceforth on my numerous visits here I limited myself to ordering just tea, which in all fairness was served promptly by good natured and well behaved servers. Another ting I noticed that though this place is not a bar or to my knowledge do not have any liquor serving permission , the visi cooler kept on the premises was always well stocked with cans of beer , so figure it out yourself. Now to the important point , why did I give it such a high rating and why am I wasting your and my own time on reviewing such an insignificant place ? The answer is one extra ordinary and unique feature this place has. The open terrace , it affords such a magnificent view of Ganges and such a phenomenal experience of sun rise against the back drop of the mighty river that is beyond discretion Watching the boatmen start there day from here is surreal and this is a statement I make after having patronised many a better rated places on the river banks. So the recommendation is go there for the view and also a word of caution , at times they just forget to own it in time for sunrise , so if you plan the trip first call to confirm that they are serving.
